Let Our Troops Eat Steak and Lobster

There’s something revealing about who Democrats choose to defend and who they don’t. A new report dropped this week exposing jaw-dropping government spending, and the outrage machine fired up instantly — for all the wrong reasons. The same crowd that would never deny themselves fancy dinners or accommodations on the taxpayers’ dime was outraged over a so-called “bombshell” Pentagon report showing that the Defense Department spent $93 billion in a month on steaks, lobster tails, and other fancy food and items.

“The Pentagon went on an epic spending spree in September 2025 by burning through $93 billion... the most at the end of a fiscal year since 2008 ... all part of the federal government's use-it-or-lose-it budget,” TMZ reported this week. “Hegseth's DOD needed to spend the money to keep their current funding moving forward... and he signed off on $6.9 million for lobster tail, $2 million for Alaskan king crab, $15.1 million for ribeye steak, $1 million for salmon, almost $140K for donuts, and $124K for ice cream machines.”

I’d love to make a reservation for two at wherever all that is being served. But I don’t deserve it. Neither does Jasmine Crockett nor any other leftist gasbag who is pretending that this is an outrage. This food is meant to feed two million troops stationed at bases worldwide, not some Beltway cocktail crowd. These warriors shield us from threats abroad while Democrats lecture about "austerity" at home.

But I guess when you’re leftist, you’re not concerned so much about wasteful spending as you are about whether that wasteful spending is on you. Seriously, after listening to Democrats literally fight tooth and nail against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), it’s nice to see them pretend to care about wasteful spending. But, all this has proven is that the only spending they consider wasteful is the spending that doesn’t benefit them.

The left's social media meltdown was predictable. The soon-to-be-unemployed Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) whined on X, “While they were busy cutting SNAP and health care for working families, Pete Hegseth spent $2 million on King Crab, nearly $7 million on Lobster Tails, and nearly $100,000 on a Grand Piano in the month of September."

And obviously Gavin Newsom had to chime in:

In fact, surf-and-turf dinners are a common morale booster for our troops.

“Deployed dining operations have long included occasional premium meals as a morale measure. Larger bases and ships may serve steak or seafood during holidays, commemorations, or after intensive mission cycles. These meals can carry emotional and symbolic weight because they contrast sharply with routine field rations or austere dining conditions,” explains Military.com. “Food remains a key component of readiness and morale, with commanders and contractors using special meals to maintain psychological resilience during deployments.”

I know Democrats are worried that if our troops enjoy some steak and lobsters, there will be less for their cocktail parties, but if anyone deserves it, it’s them, not the Jasmine Crocketts and Gavin Newsoms of the world.
