Democrats love to clutch their pearls whenever President Trump cracks down on immigration enforcement. After four years of Joe Biden letting in millions, sending them all over the interior—wreaking havoc—they’re less than thrilled that Trump’s actually following through on one of his key campaign pledges. "On day one, I will launch the largest deportation program of criminals in the history of America,” Trump promised, and boy, is he following through. So, what are Democrats trying to do, as Trump sends future Democrat voters back over the border? They’re trying to redefine illegal immigration.
For years now, Democrats have pushed hard to rebrand illegal immigration, with minimal success. They swap "illegal immigrants" for "undocumented immigrants." Sounds softer. Less threatening.
But, since Trump has been back in office, they’ve been pushing the narrative that the Trump administration is rounding up innocent folks off the street. Truth is, officials target criminal illegal aliens first. Sometimes others get swept up, but those people still broke the law just by being here unlawfully, and that makes them criminals, too.
Trump's team focuses on the worst offenders. Deportation flights fill with gang members, drug traffickers, and repeat violators. Liberals cry foul when a few non-criminals—aside from their illegal status—end up on those planes. They forget the basics. Crossing the border without permission violates federal law. Simple as that.
But, they don’t want you to know that. Have you noticed that the left has been pushing the talking point that illegal immigration isn’t even a crime?
They have.
Back in April, Scott Jennings was defending Trump’s immigration policies and said, “Well, they’re going after people who are in the country illegally, right?”
Host Abby Phillip responded, “Yeah — no. But I’m saying the criminals, this is a much bigger universe.”
“Doesn’t that make you a criminal?” Jennings asked.
“No. It doesn’t,” Phillip insisted.
“To come — to come across the border illegally?” Jennings pressed.
Phillip concluded, “Coming into the country illegally is a civil offense. It’s not a criminal offense.”
Others pile on with the same spin, and they’re just as wrong.
Federal law says otherwise. 8 U.S.C. § 1325 spells it out. A first-time “improper entry” results in a misdemeanor charge and civil fines, or up to six months in jail. Repeat offenses? Up to two years behind bars. Cross between ports of entry. Skip inspection. Lie on paperwork. You face criminal penalties.

Then there's 8 U.S.C. § 1326. This makes reentry after deportation a felony, meaning you can get up to two years in prison. If you got a felony history, it could be as much as ten years. Aggravated felonies? Twenty years is possible. The law is firm—no wiggle room.
Trump isn’t abusing the law, like the left wants us to believe; he’s enforcing it.
Today, thanks to President Trump’s border policies, illegal crossings have dropped to the point of near nonexistence. That outcome is not an accident; it is the job voters elected him to do, and he delivered. The law is being enforced again, which is why the crisis evaporated almost overnight. Democrats now insist that illegal immigration is somehow not a real crime, but that talking point is pure projection and disinformation.
