The Charlie Kirk memorial in Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday has drawn thousands of people, and is a true testament to Kirk’s influence in the conservative movement. And guess what? That terrifies the left. Kirk may have been silenced by an assassin’s bullet, but it’s clear from the thousands of new chapter requests for Turning Point USA that his mission will not slow down, and this is a huge problem for the left.
In fact, on CNN Sunday afternoon, former Obama advisor David Axelrod revealed that he is clearly nervous about what comes next.
While Axelrod admitted Kirk’s death was “a tragedy for the country, because it was an assault on free speech and the ability to express oneself in the public square that is so fundamental to our country, and that’s what Charlie Kirk was doing,” his words quickly proved to be empty rhetoric. He proceeded to try to undermine Kirk’s legacy, adding: “Whether you call something racist or not, that’s a discussion. Charlie Kirk said things that were offensive to black people. That doesn’t—uh, I don’t want to sully this day of mourning by getting deeply into that debate, but that’s just a fact, you know?”
The fact that Axelrod brought it up at all says a lot. He was clearly trying to plant the idea that Kirk was racist, and that his critics were somehow justified in their outrage, even while claiming he didn’t want to get into it
And yet Axelrod also betrayed his real concern: that Kirk’s death will inspire even greater momentum for the conservative movement, particularly among the young people Kirk so effectively mobilized.
“One of the things I’m gonna be looking for today,” Axelrod said of the Kirk memorial service, “is, to the people who are coming there to mourn, will they get the kind of, um, ceremony and service that they deserve and yearn for—or will it just turn into a political rally, where, uh, you know, uh, this—this horrible occasion will be used to further divide and galvanize?”
This Axelrod guy on CNN is worried about a sea of Christians being "galvanized" in their faith in Jesus Christ today at Charlie's funeral.

That choice of words—“further divide and galvanize”—reveals what Axelrod and his fellow Democrats really fear: that Kirk’s assassination won’t silence his message but will strengthen it. The left knows that Charlie Kirk was uniquely effective at bringing young people into the conservative movement, and Axelrod is worried that even in death, Kirk will continue to accelerate that mission.
ICYM: That CATO Study on Political Violence Is Hot Garbage
Seriously, how dare he make such absurd comments. Charlie Kirk was murdered because of his conservative views. Leftists nationwide are being conditioned to believe they are morally obligated to silence conservatives. On a daily basis, mainstream Democrats accuse Republican and conservative leaders of being bigots, racists, and threats to “our democracy.” Joe Biden infamously declared at Independence Hall in 2022 that “Trump and MAGA Republicans pose a clear and present danger to our democracy.” So, he tried to put Trump in prison, and that failed.
Then on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. Two months later, another would-be assassin tried again and failed. Two weeks ago, an assassin succeeded in killing Charlie Kirk. The radical left put targets on the backs of all conservatives. But Axelrod is worried that the Kirk memorial service will divide the country and galvanize the right? Give me a break. The left divided this country long ago, and their escalating violence against conservatives is exactly what has galvanized us.
The conservative movement hasn’t been silenced—it’s been supercharged. Every bullet fired at our leaders, every smear, every attack has only hardened our resolve. They took Charlie Kirk’s life, but they didn’t kill his mission. If anything, his message is now unstoppable.
The left wanted to terrify conservatives into silence, but all they’ve done is spark a movement that will roar louder, stand taller, and fight harder than ever before.
"His legacy must be that when they took his life a million more Charlie's stepped up to film the void," Donald Trump Jr. said at the service. That's what the left fears right now.
