The Left Has No Sense of Humor

Poll after poll has shown conservatives are happier than liberals, and it’s not hard to see why. Conservatives value personal responsibility, faith, family, and community — anchors that bring purpose and stability. They’re busy building their own lives, not spiraling over imaginary systemic oppressions or doomcasting the future.

Liberals, meanwhile, tie their happiness to achieving impossible political utopias, guaranteeing a steady diet of frustration and resentment. When your worldview depends on remaking the entire planet to fit your ideology, joy becomes a rare commodity.

The left’s eternal state of offense renders it utterly incapable of humor, even when humor is glaringly obvious and harmless.

It must really suck to be a leftist. Seriously. How do they live life when they can't see the humor in anything because they're too busy looking for oppression, bigotry, or something else bad where there is none?

Take the latest digital spectacle courtesy of Donald Trump Jr., who posted a photoshopped image on Instagram that showed his father tossing a bright green adult toy from the White House roof onto a WNBA basketball court.

The image itself is a jest, riffing on recent events where fans have interrupted games with this outlandish stunt. Trump Jr. captioned it “Posted without further comment” alongside laughing emojis, leaving no doubt it was meant as a humorous poke at the media and WNBA’s reaction to these incidents, which the WNBA (and the perpetually offended left) have taken major offense to.

Rather than appreciate the humor, leftist commentators and social media users swiftly descended into predictable outrage. The WNBA condemned the real-life disruptions as dangerous and disrespectful, framing the thrown objects as “misogynistic.” They pushed policies banning offenders for at least a year, and prosecutors have even arrested some individuals for such antics.

This reaction perfectly exemplifies the left’s problem: it can’t see the humor in anything. It looks at the world through a lens of victimhood and offense, refusing to engage with satire or jokes that mock its sacred narratives.

The left’s reflexive response is always the same: sanctimony and thinly veiled censorship threats. Leftists live in a perpetual state of offense, smothering free expression and trapping public discourse in an endless loop of outrage and grievance. Humor, when we allow it to breathe, is the great social equalizer. It unites people through shared laughter, takes the air out of tense situations, and reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously. But when one side insists on policing every punchline, it drains the life out of a joke before it can even land.

Donald Trump Jr.’s meme wasn’t meant to win a comedy award; it was meant to poke, prod, and spark debate. Provocative? Sure. Harmless? Absolutely. That’s what humor is supposed to do: challenge us, make us squirm a little, and refuse to bow to the self-appointed offense police.

But until the left learns to unclench and take a joke, it'll stay stuck in its own joyless echo chamber, missing one of life’s simplest and greatest freedoms: the freedom to laugh.
