New York's Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul just showed us exactly how far the left will go to undermine Republican control of Congress. In a stunning display of partisan pettiness, Hochul signaled she'd drag her feet on calling a special election if Rep. Elise Stefanik vacated her seat to become UN ambassador—a move that perfectly exemplifies the Democrats' "by any means necessary" approach to seizing power.
New York state law typically requires governors to call special elections within a 10-day window of a vacancy. But Hochul and her Democrat cronies had already proposed legislation to delay special elections until November. How convenient. This isn't governance; it's political manipulation at its finest.
Let's be clear about what's happening here. Republicans currently hold a razor-thin 218-214 majority in the House. Every. Single. Seat. Matters. This slim margin is precisely why Hochul was ready to play games with election timing—because Democrats can't win fairly, they'll bend the rules to their advantage.
President Trump recognized this reality when he withdrew Stefanik's nomination on Thursday, stating, "As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."
Many of us were concerned after he won that he was picking too many Republican House members to serve in his administration. The only good thing is that Hochul showed us her cards before Stefanik was confirmed and resigned from Congress.

The Democrats’ tactics are nothing new. When they’re not ignoring the law for partisan gain, they’re changing it to suit their needs. As a former resident of Massachusetts, I still remember how in 2004 the Democrat-controlled legislature blocked GOP Gov. Mitt Romney from filling a Senate vacancy if then Sen. John Kerry won the presidency. But after Ted Kennedy’s death in 2009, they quickly rewrote the law to let Democrat Gov. Deval Patrick appoint a temporary replacement so the Democrats in the U.S. Senate could have their 60-seat supermajority and overcome Republican filibusters.
Tactics like this are on different pages of the same corrupt playbook.
What makes this especially absurd is the Democrats’ shameless spin—claiming Stefanik’s withdrawal proves Americans are rejecting Trump’s agenda. In reality, Trump and Stefanik made a strategic move to protect the Republican majority because Gov. Hochul was poised to ignore state law.
The truth is simple: Democrats in state government will exploit every loophole, bend every rule, and abuse every power to sabotage Republican control of Congress. They’ve done it before, and they’ll do it again. This isn’t governance—it’s corruption. If Republicans don’t push back, expect more of this blatant power grab from Democrat governors across the country.
This is the Democratic Party’s idea of “democracy”—where rules only matter when they serve their agenda.
