The Real Reason the Media’s Finally Reporting on Biden’s Decline

Have you noticed the trend in recent weeks, that we’re seeing more stories about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline as it was observed at early points in his presidency? Meanwhile, those of us who were reporting on Biden’s cognitive decline from the beginning are sitting here wondering why it took them so long. Well, there’s an obvious reason for that.

This week, the Wall Street Journal had an extensive exposé on how the White House covered up Biden’s problems pretty much from the very beginning. Then, on Saturday, the Daily Mail reported that Biden kept the families of the 13 U.S. service members who were killed during his botched withdrawal from Afghanistan waiting for three hours for the dignified transfer ceremony, while he was taking a nap in Air Force One on the tarmac.

We’re also starting to see prominent media figures admitting they failed to address Joe Biden’s cognitive decline during his presidency.

For example, former CNN host Chris Cillizza has now publicly apologized for not taking Biden’s health issues more seriously while he was still at the network.

“As a reporter, I have a confession to make,” Cillizza said. "I should have pushed harder earlier for more information about Joe Biden's mental and physical well-being and any signs of decline."

Cillizza admitted that while at CNN, he often dismissed Republican concerns about Biden’s cognitive decline, claiming there was a lack of “evidence.” He also confessed to taking the White House at its word and avoiding the issue out of fear of being accused of “age shaming” the president.

“And I would sort of brush them off because what I would say is, ‘Well, there's no obvious evidence that he's declining. Yeah, he moves a little slower, he talks a little slower, but there's no evidence that he's declining.’ And, and the White House and the people around Joe Biden were absolutely adamant that suggesting anything, asking the question about whether he was in some physical, mental or both decline was offensive.”

How could you?’ ‘It's age-shaming!’ And I think that impacted me at some level, because while I did ask the question from time to time of, you know, not directly the White House, but aides and people around in that orbit, I didn't really push on it, if I'm being honest.”

Let’s be clear: this isn’t an apology—it’s an attempt to shift blame and dodge accountability for failing to do his job. Chris Cillizza is essentially admitting he knew better, but is excusing his inaction by claiming the White House pressured him into silence. Now, consider this for a moment. During Trump’s first term, how often did we see so-called journalists and “reputable” networks eagerly push the narrative that Trump was mentally unfit? They trotted out so-called experts desperate for attention, ready to back up these claims. Funny how concerns about “ageism” or sensitivity conveniently disappeared when the target was a Republican president, or how at the same time they were defending Joe Biden during his presidency, they were trying to balance questions about Biden’s mental fitness by claiming, without evidence, that Trump was similarly impaired.

With Biden’s presidency ending, admissions such as Cillizza’s come risk-free. The media ignored legitimate concerns, dismissed them as partisan, and shielded Biden from scrutiny. By the time his decline was undeniable, accountability was impossible. These late apologies don’t restore trust or fix the damage of a press focused on protecting Democrats over truth, instead paving the way for a renewed double standard at Americans’ expense.

Cillizza’s admission isn’t an isolated case—it’s part of a calculated effort by the media to rewrite the narrative. These exposés and so-called apologies aren’t about accountability; they’re about clearing the slate.

By acknowledging Biden’s cognitive decline now, the media conveniently positions itself to aggressively scrutinize Donald Trump’s mental health over the next four years, using these admissions as a pretext to claim they’ve learned their lesson.
