What You Must Do To Get What You Want

Susannah Breslin with 3 Ways To Be A Better Negotiator Today at Forbes:

There is a lot complaining among women these days, focusing on the disparity between what (some) women make and what (some) men make. I don’t find this never-ending debate helpful. In fact, I find it counterproductive. OK, I want to say, I get it, but what are you going to do about it?

In life, I’ve found, I can do something about anything when I take responsibility for it. As long as it’s the other person’s fault, or I’m complaining about it, or I’m being victimized by forces beyond my control, I never have to do anything about it. This is a victim’s mentality. This gets you nowhere. This is like watching water swirl down a drain.
