The Village Voice Hears Voices

Remember when Sally Field told the Academy upon receiving her second Oscar “You love me, you really, really love me!”?

Well, they hate us. They really, really hate us.

But then, that’s always been the case in the tiny reactionary enclave of Greenwich Village, where “Recreate ’68” is a permanent way of life.

Or as Stacy McCain notes, “‘White America Has Lost Its Mind’ — That’s the headline on the cover story of the latest issue of the Village Voice. And who can argue with the evidence they provide to support their conclusion?”

Stock up on plenty of saline solution — or maybe Smirnoff — before clicking on the photo that Stacy found in the Voice to illustrate his post:

Uh, that’s not from the cover story. That photo — which appears to depict a rather unattractive sex-change of some sort — was evidently taken at a recent rock festival featuring the Insane Clown Posse and is part of a photo slide show at the Village Voice Web site.

The part of White America that Village Voice writer Steven Thrasher believes to have lost its mind, however, weren’t the folks at the Insane Clown Posse concert. Rather, it’s the white folks at Tea Parties, the white folks listening to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck — and quite frankly, most of the white folks reading this blog — who are suffering from a mental disorder that Thrasher sums up rather succinctly:

For the first time in their lives, baby boomers are hard up against it economically, and white boy is becoming outnumbered and it’s got his bowels chilled with fear.
