Dick Durbin Pretty Happy Over Prospect Of Former Terrorists In Illinois

No, not the ones who’ve been living there for quite a while. The ones who could be arriving in the coming year, the Associated Press notes:

Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin says a draft memo leaked to a conservative Web site is an encouraging sign that the government intends to transfer Guantanamo Bay detainees to his state.

Durbin and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn released a joint statement Friday saying that the memo signals “the administration has narrowed its focus” to the Thomson Correctional Center in Illinois. They say no final decision has been made, but the memo is an encouraging development.

The memo was posted on a conservative Web site known as Big Government.

The Thomson Correctional Center is a nearly empty maximum-security state prison in a sleepy town of 450 people near the Mississippi River.

If this actually does come to pass, no word yet on how the facility’s officers will enjoy the potential of being dubbed “Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime—Pol Pot or others” running the new “gulag of our times”, by Godwin’s Law-violating Illinois senators in the coming years.

Update: A meme is born, as commenter MarkJ proffers a modest suggestion: “Change the name of the ‘Thompson Correctional Center’ to ‘Club Durbin.'” I think he just did!
