Predictably, as the city of Houston deals with catastrophic flooding after Hurricane Harvey, looters — like vermin — have come out of their rat holes to take advantage of damaged businesses. Where most see disaster, these dregs of humanity see opportunity.
Houston PD Chief Art Acevedo announced early this morning that his officers completed more than 2,000 rescue missions over the weekend, with about 250 rescues to go.
Acevedo said that as floodwaters recede, his officers are focusing now on protecting the city from looters.
“We’ve already arrested a handful of looters. We’ve made it real clear to our community we’re going to do whatever it takes to protect their homes and their businesses,” Acevedo said. “And when people come from the outside to Houston, Texas, know we’re going to be out in the city, we’re not going to rest as a police department or law enforcement community until people restore their lives.”
Some people thought they'd loot and find themselves in jail thanks to the men and women of @houstonpolice.

A video uploaded by Isabel Torres onto Facebook shows looters walking in and out of stores that have been have broken into at a shopping center. People are seen walking off with boxes and bags full of merchandise. Two males are seen walking away with TVs over their heads. At one point, the camera focuses on some women in the parking lot who have filled several shopping carts with merchandise.
It’s not clear whether the people seen in the video got very far. They may or may not have been among the looters arrested by Houston police.
“They do not miss an opportunity!!!” said Torres. “This happened during Harvey’s storm in Houston, Texas, on the streets and homestead !!!!”
