'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Sequel Trailer Promises More of the Same

Some objects of childhood nostalgia translate into adulthood. Properties like Star Wars or Batman work on multiple levels, appealing to different generations.

Watching the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, one is struck by how much this property belongs strictly to the kiddies. It works on one level and one level only: infantile comic action. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but don’t expect much of an improvement from the first film if this trailer is any indication.

On the up side, we glimpse a few characters whose absence was felt in the previous installment. Arrow’s Stephen Amell makes his move to the big screen as hockey vigilante Casey Jones. We’ll also see Bebop and Rocksteady in this one, though they look even more ridiculous than the turtles do.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows lights up theaters next year.
