Threads in Portland

A dear friend of mine, Tonya Jone Miller, debuted her one-woman show Threads in Portland last night.

It’s a narrative she built from hours of conversations with her mother, a girl from rural Indiana who moved to Saigon during the war to teach English, met, fell in love with, and married a Vietnamese man, and finally escaped (barely)  during the final collapse of South Viet Nam.  It’s not political, just human.

She workshopped the text with me while she was writing it, and it brought me to tears.

If you are in or near Portland, see it.
