Arson at Lourdes Shrine and the Self-Destruction of the West

The crypt of a church at the famous Catholic town of Lourdes, site of a miraculous spring and visions a poor local girl had of Christ’s mother Mary, caught fire this weekend, with evidence indicating arson. And here in microcosm, we see how modern Western policies are destroying Western civilization’s heritage.

It does not appear that a suspect has been named as yet in the reported arson attack at Lourdes’s church, but Muslim "migrants" often commit arson of churches in France. There is still debate as to whether or not the fire that gutted Notre Dame in Paris was Muslim arson. Lourdes, one of the most famous modern Catholic pilgrimage sites and witness to the power of the true God through the many miracles that have occurred there, is an obvious target for Muslim terrorists in France trying to earn their 72 virgins. Especially during the Christmas season.

Donald Trump conducted a strike on ISIS terrorists in Nigeria on Christmas Day, understanding the power of defending persecuted Christians on such an important Christian feast. But Muslim terrorists also often choose Jewish or Christian feasts on which to target Jews and Christians or their holy sites. It is no coincidence that the ISIS Bondi Beach massacre was a slaughter of Jews at a Hanukkah celebration, and we will not be surprised if this arson attack at Lourdes was deliberate Jihad during the 12 days of Christmas. That same Lourdes church, Sacré-Cœur, was recently vandalized with anti-Catholic graffiti.

This Saturday (Dec. 27) in the Catholic Church is the feast day of St. John the Evangelist, the apostle who wrote a gospel, several epistles, and the book of Revelation. In the latter book, John sees a vision of the fall of Babylon, which mystically stands for a very corrupt empire. While many modern-day Christians apply Revelation only to the end times, in fact, in the past, Christians have often and accurately applied the lessons of John’s visions to their own lives. There are always wars, evil regimes, persecutions, and false prophets. In fact, “Antichrist” is not used in the singular in the Bible, only in the plural. There are many antichrists.

John describes the collapse of the evil empire (Revelation 18:5, 8): “For her sins have reached unto heaven, and the Lord hath remembered her iniquities…Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine, and she shall be burnt with the fire; because God is strong, who shall judge her.”

The alarming part is that many of the sins listed in the Bible as excluding people from heaven are ones glorified in Western nations now, including France and America. Among these sins are fornication, homosexuality, drunkenness, anger, murder, thievery, adultery, idolatry, and corruption of children (see 1 Cor.6:9-10, Matt. 18:6). Western nations have also imported millions of people who hate Christian values, particularly if they are Muslim.

In 2021, France experienced over 850 anti-Christian attacks, more than 90% of which were against property. That made for an average of two attacks every single day. In 2023, there were almost 1,000 anti-Christian hate crimes in France, and in 2024, the first nine months alone saw 26 church fires in France, 14 of which were definitely proved to be arson, per ECSPE. The overwhelming majority of attacks continue to be attacks on churches and cemeteries, as in Lourdes. There was also just an attack on a French Catholic bookstore by Muslims. Indeed, the Catholic League reported this summer that Islamic Jihad was driving the attacks against Christians in France.

This is the suicide of the West, because we turned our backs on God.
