Joseph Stalin, the murderous Soviet dictator born on this day in 1878, once described education as a “weapon.” Unfortunately, that is also the view of his Marxist inheritors, the modern leftists of America.
The "family friendly Pride events" at libraries and schools, the bogus college degrees like LGBTQ Studies or Women's Studies or Black Feminist Literature, the BLM and transgender flags in classrooms, the trans-ing of students at school, the biological males in women's sports, the rewriting of history and denigration of honest science and classic literature — we see the leftist assault on education from every angle. In fact, leftists dominate education now, the result of decades of assiduous Communist and Islamist efforts to infiltrate and take over colleges, universities, and grade schools in America, both from foreign radicals (e.g., China and Qatar) and home-grown crazies.
This is truly the heart of the culture war. Stalin, whose regime massacred between 9 million and 60 million people while maintaining a reign of terror, was as savvy about the importance of education as his less bloody but similarly pernicious fellow Commies now are. "Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed," he observed.
The weapon right now is too often in the hands of anti-American, anti-Judeo-Christian, race-baiting, socialist, neo-Nazi, authoritarian, sex-worshipping leftists. And it is aimed at our children.

There are countless examples one could give, of course, but probably the most sobering one from this year was Tyler Robinson, the deranged LGBTQ leftist who assassinated Charlie Kirk. Robinson was raised in a conservative family but by high school a friend remembered he was already politically leftist, and by the time he'd taken some college classes he was convinced he'd be a hero if he could gun down a young father purely for speaking truths with which Robinson happened to disagree. Tyler Robinson was transformed by America's woke education system into a political and moral monster.
The recent "family friendly" "Drag the Halls" event hosted by Napa Valley College and organized by a youth network is a recent example. So are the Arizona charter school that demanded students affirm a PE teacher’s “gender transition” and the Montana library putting up DEI and transgender displays specifically for kids. The list of perverts, ideologues, and corruptions in our education system could go on and on, but we all understand the point.
There are still good teachers and administrators, but they are becoming fewer and farther between. Those who do try to teach children instead of indoctrinate them are often persecuted and driven out by their co-workers and bosses. As American students' test scores drop year after year, as basic proficiency in math and reading vanishes in countless schools, it's obvious the Commies are winning. From school boards to school districts to universities to teachers' unions, our education system is overwhelmingly run by leftists.
That is not to say the situation is hopeless, but that we need to take it very seriously. Every one of us has a part to play, whether it's homeschooling children, funding classical schools or apprenticeships, sharing honest history and quality literature with kids, or exposing and voting out the ideologues.
We are at war with the Communists, and education is the weapon. We must use the Communists' own weapon against them.
