Yesterday, President Obama took to the Rose Garden to spike the football over his claim that Obamacare sign-ups reached “7.1 million.” How that happened, when Healthcare.gov crashed on the last day of sign-ups, has not been explained.
His math also has not been explained — the number that the administration first delivered was 7,041,000. Rounding all the way up to 7.1 million is just bad math.
During his “mission accomplished” speech, Obama allowed that criticizing his law is part of the democratic process…before spending 10 minutes berating those critics.
Today, regret would be appropriate if our president was not the obnoxious braggart that he is. While the latest ABC/WaPo poll had support for Obamacare creeping up to a plurality, a new Quinnipiac poll puts Obamacare’s disapproval right back where it has consistently been since 2010 — in the majority.
American voters oppose the Affordable Care Act 55 – 41 percent and 40 percent are less likely to vote for a candidate who supports Obamacare, while 27 percent are more likely and 31 percent say this will not affect their vote.
So Obama spiked the football on the heads of 55% of the American public, leading up to the mid-terms. That’s a genius move.
For Democrats running for re-election this year, that poll spells doom. Obama’s coattails are all negative: He’s at 55% job disapproval, just 26% believe the economy is in good shape, and Obama’s disapproval on how he is handling healthcare is at 58%. He is also slightly underwater on how he is handling the Ukraine/Russia crisis, which probably reflects longstanding lack of interest in foreign policy as much as anything else, plus overall lack of trust in him.
