You need to read the setup, which is too long to post here. Rush goes through the same history that has me and I’m sure many others in despair for our country right now. It’s not just the particular results of a particular election, but how what led to it and what has come after it is so insane and so unworthy of our nation. We face a massive debt problem because our government spends far too much. Rather than face that honestly like adults, we’re all being sucked into a hysterical debate over the sequestration. We’re told that it will bring on Armageddon. That planes will fall from the sky. That meat won’t be inspected and our streets won’t be policed and our national defense will be gutted.
All over a small reduction in the rate of growth of government spending. About $22 billion this year out of a total budget in excess of $3 trillion.
I checked out on that false debate last night. I’m just done with it. Rush checked out on it today.
RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in my life, I am ashamed of my country. To be watching all of this, to be treated like this, to have our common sense and intelligence insulted the way it’s being insulted? It just makes me ashamed. Seriously, man. Here we get worked up over $44 billion. That’s the total amount of money that will not be spent that was scheduled to be spent this year. In truth, we’re gonna spend more this year than we spent last year.
We’re just not gonna spend as much as was projected. It’s all baseline budgeting. There is no real cut below a baseline of zero. There just isn’t. Yet here they come, sucking us in, roping us in. Panic here, fear there: Crisis, destruction, no meat inspection, no cops, no teachers, no firefighters, no air traffic control. I’m sorry, my days of getting roped into all this are over. We have the media playing along with all this. The ruling class of both parties play along with all this. It’s insulting. I don’t know how else to describe it.
The debate and the crisis is it supposed to trigger are both phony. It’s a sucker’s game to maneuver the conservative movement into the position of defending excessive government spending and to get us to fall in love with big government. Obama’s aim is the same as it has been since he first began running for the presidency, to fundamentally transform the nation and to neutralize the Republican Party as a viable political force.
A great nation with an exceptional people wouldn’t fall for any of this. They just wouldn’t. But a majority of Americans do. They fall for the most dishonest, most pitiful propaganda. We have countenanced these phony “Republicans are trying to starve children!” scare debates for decades now. Not only are they not going away, they’re getting worse and the mainstream media is ever more obviously complicit in all of it.
So let the sequestration happen. The sky will not fall. The world will not end. Maybe, just maybe, the fight will help some Republicans with real stamina and vision rise to the top of the party on the way to reversing our national decay. Maybe.
