Madonna did all the “shocking” stuff Gaga is doing now, decades ago. Then came Sinead O’Connor. Until Marilyn Manson one-upped her a bit. And there have been a bunch of other shocking artists, all saying the same thing and targeting the same innocent people, through the years. With the latest incarnation of the anti-God pop tart, it’s all just really really old.
Lady Gaga has come under fire from Catholic rights campaigners for her controversial use of religious imagery – they’ve branded her upcoming single “Judas” a “stunt.”
The singer takes on the Bible in the forthcoming music video for the track, in which she portrays Mary Magdalene and actor Norman Reedus stars as Judas.
Of course it’s a stunt, and a sign of an artist who has run out of ideas so shock replaces creativity. It’s also a sign of rank cowardice. If Lady Gaga really wanted to be edgy, and if she really wanted to take some risks, she would make a video like this.
The whole world knows she won’t do that. Why she won’t, is an open question.
