Clinton Superdelegate Gets Earful of Bern with His Takeout Food

A Colorado congressman who endorsed Hillary Clinton for president last year got an earful on his takeout order from residents unhappy about the superdelegate system.

The re-election campaign of Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) tweeted last July: “I proudly endorse @HillaryClinton, who will work her hardest to improve the lives of all people.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) won the March 1 Colorado caucus with 59 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 40.3 percent. He picked up 38 delegates; she walked away with 28.

However, Clinton is buoyed by the state lawmakers who vow to support her as superdelegates.

Gov. John Hickenlooper said last week that he wouldn’t change his superdelegate vote to reflect the popular vote in his state.

“The voters elected me to use my judgment to make decisions,” Hickenlooper told Colorado Matters. “I can’t imagine changing where I stand.”

A Change.org petition with more than 10,000 signatures argues that the superdelegates pledged to Clinton “should better reflect the opinions of the people that they are sworn to represent.”

“They are OUR representatives. WE elected them. OUR voices deserve to be heard. They should be speaking for US, the citizens, not for their personal opinion. As a member of public office whose duty it is to represent the people, even if they disagree with them, selfish desires and opinions should be set aside for the sake of the people they are sworn to represent,” states the petition.
