Obviously, there is no legitimate excuse to allow this humiliation ritual.
I have met, in the furthest-flung provinces of Third World countries, otherwise uneducated members of the lowest socioeconomic rung who speak English — sometimes more fluently and intelligibly than certain members of the urban community stateside.
English is the international language of everything; there is, again, no reason to allow foreigners to take their oaths of office in English-speaking countries aside from further eroding any sense of nationhood united by borders, language, and culture, as Michael Savage’s mantra goes.
