Target experiences wokelash post-DEI rollback

You knew this was coming.

Via The Philadelphia Tribune (emphasis added):

Corporate America retreated from its commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion over fears of a backlash and legal attacks from the Trump administration and the political right.

There are signs that it should have paid more attention to the left.

In January, Target Corp. rolled back its DEI initiatives, including ending its diversity goals and “evolving” its Supplier Diversity team to Supplier Engagement. The retailer had long capitalized on its image as a progressive and inclusive company, so to some consumers the backtracking felt like a betrayal

Data from Placer.ai shows that Target’s overall foot traffic has fallen every week since its DEI reversal on Jan. 24. Walmart’s estimated visits have fallen over the same period, but not as steeply as Target’s. In contrast, the number of shoppers visiting Costco continued to grow.

Target’s largely apolitical upper management, with its myopic focus on the bottom line, is very likely to take the wrong lesson from this whole affair.

The lesson it should take is that climbing into bed with these Social Justice™ people — catering to their sick delusions by selling "genital-packing" underwear and "chest binders" — is a suicide pact; they are going to push and push and push until they drag your company into the abyss for the sake of their ideology, and the second you offer any pushback they’ll just go ahead and expedite the destruction they were already pursuing.

These are destroyers; all they know how to do is devour.

They have no ethical constraints.

They are incapable of nuance.

They have no friends; what they have are “allies” whose in-group membership is contingent on doglike, unending compliance.

They have no loyalty.

Appeals court denies Trump administration request to expedite transgender military ban

If you even casually follow the goings-on within the federal judiciary, you won’t be surprised at all which appeals circuit denied the Trump team request to proceed with the transgender ban.

Via Reuters (emphasis added):

A U.S. appeals court on Monday denied a request by the Trump administration to pause a lower court's decision blocking President Donald Trump's ban on transgender people serving in the military.

U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle in Tacoma, Washington, last week issued a preliminary injunction putting on hold the military's new policy of identifying and discharging any transgender service members.

The Trump administration appealed Settle's ruling, and asked the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to put the ruling on hold - which would have allowed it to enforce the ban for now - while the appeal played out.

On Monday, a three-judge panel at the 9th Circuit denied the Trump administration's request for a so-called administrative stay of Settle's ruling.

Trans-Atlantic rift grows over Trump DEI rollbacks

Via ABC News (emphasis added):

U.S. government efforts to eliminate diversity initiatives are not going down well on the European continent.

Laurent Saint-Martin, France's minister for foreign trade, said the country won't compromise after the U.S. State Department demanded French companies drop diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. In neighboring Belgium, where some companies reportedly received similar requests, the government lashed out at perceived U.S. pressure…

Diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords*, but the foundations of a strong and dynamic society,” they said. “They strengthen our economy, foster innovation and allow talent to flourish.”

*Note that they never delineate what they actually mean by “diversity.”

If what they were talking about was diversity of thought, skills, and experiences, then it’s plausible that diversity is a net asset for a business or government entity.

But that’s not what they’re talking about; what they mean by “diversity” is a quota system for racial and gender minorities irrespective of merit.

There’s no convincing rationale for how racial diversity (or gender diversity) for its own sake is beneficial for the economy, society — or, actually, anything. Indeed, as we have seen in our own country, multi-racial pluralism is way, way harder to make work than an ethnically and culturally homogenous society like, for instance, Japan.
