CONTROL

Came across this on Twitter. Surprised I’d never read it before, but I found it deeply moving.

People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work.

...unless you're naive enough to think that, once the police and government take away all OUR guns, they will then go ahead and give up their own.

Lessons from history: what government has EVER done that?

Followup lesson: find instances in history in which the government had arms and the people did not. Which of those instances worked out well for the people?

The American Founding Fathers believed that the government, being inherently trustworthy, needed to be kept small and afraid. And they knew, all too well, that tyrannical governments started out by cutting off the people's access to communication and to weapons, because that's what the British tried to do here. That's why they kept emphasizing freedom of speech and the right to own weapons, over and over again... and enshrined them as the First and Second Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

It's just a picture, and no searchable text, so I'll type it out here:

"If you are for gun control, then you are not against guns, because the guns will be needed to disarm people. So it's not that your are anti-gun. You'll need the police's guns to take away other people's guns. So you're very Pro-Gun, you just believe that only the Govenrment (which is, of course, so reliable, honest, moral and virtuous...) should be allowed to have guns. There is no such thing as gun control. There is only centralizing gun ownership in the hands of a small, political elite and their minions." ~Stefan Molyneux

All punctuation and capitalization as original.

If you are for economic equality, then you are not against concentrations of wealth, because a concentration of wealth will be needed in order to have the power to redistribute wealth. So, it's not that you're anti-wealth. You'll need a wealthy political elite to take away everyone else's wealth. So, you're very pro-wealth. You just believe that only the political elite, who are so reliable, honest, moral and virtuous, should be allowed to have wealth. There is no such thing as elimination of inequality in wealth. There is only centralizing wealth in the hands of a small, political elite and their minions.

Shorter version: Gun control is about who is allowed to have the guns, the people and the government, or just the government? It is not about eliminating guns, because the government will always keep its own guns.

He certainly falls into the camp of over-idealized Libertarianism, which relies if nothing else, on too much faith in human rationality. But he has a channel on youtube, and it has a lot of excellent videos describing libertarian policy concepts.

Overall, a very articulate and prolific thinker worth listening to.

It's a great point. I would highlight competence: "Because Government is so reliable, COMPETENT, honest, moral, and virtuous."
