As a fan of both ST and SW, I was doubly offended by what he said. Any petitions out there for those of us who're fans of both? ;)

This is what happens when Obama tries to be all things to all people, he's shows that he doesn't understand anything about anybody.

Hell, THIS is probably the greatest proof that he's unamerican. He can't get EITHER side of the Star Wars/Star Trek debate right.

Funny story, I don't see any signatures from Colorado on the petition.

(Also, what's with the PJ login system? It doesn't remember my credentials for more than 20 minutes)

HEY! Some of us out here are Trekkies on account of preferring some actual A) character development and B) speculative plot devices, even if not on a very high level, to just more rockets-robots-and-rayguns space fantasy.

Then again, the rockets-robots-and-rayguns space fantasy WAS, admittedly, fresh and entertaining back in '77.

Not to mention that both sagas proceed from idiotic leftist premises. Come to think of it, maybe Obeyme was onto something...

Roddenberry didn't go very far left in the original series. Most of the goofy stuff emerged from Next Generation.

One of the most cringe-worthy lines in Trek is from ST:First Contact
(an otherwise excellent film) to the effect that once humans encountered aliens, they not only gave up race hatred & war, but the eliminated poverty, money, and disease
.

Didn't know Vulcans acted like booster shots for us pink-skins. :-/

P.S. Is it just me, or does this new comment interface look a LOT like Disqus? I wonder if they're using that as the engine.

Well the replicator would eliminate poverty and, to a significant degree, money. If we got the technology from the Vulcans or some other species ( it's been long enough since I've seen Enterprise that I can't remember if they had replicators) that part of the statement would be OK. However, given how many TNG episodes revolved around disease the last part is just pure, unadulterated, high-test stupid.

Of course, trying to hammer out a consistent series of events in the Trek universe is like trying to empty the oceans with a thimble.

Not to nit-pick (or to out-geek the Green one), but it was Jabba the Hutt who used the phrase "Jedi mind trick" in Episode 6. And for whatever foibles Star Trek has, Mr. Spock most definitely does NOT suck.
