The Truth is Quieter than Fiction
Patterico on one of the now-predictable responses to the Crowder assault:
So what does Marcy Wheeler of Empty Wheel do? Immediately accuse the accusers. She writes a post titled “Breitbart Folks Appear to Fake Violence in Lansing.” She immediately labels the destruction of a tent as a probable false flag, and then updates with: “Here’s a picture of Steve Crowder deliberately provoking peaceful union people from before he was claiming to have been attacked.” This update was made before video evidence emerged that proved Crowder was attacked.
Keep in mind: Crowder has actually been repeatedly punched at this point. But literally before any actual evidence is known, Wheeler is smearing Crowder, labeling him the aggressor, and turning it into a political issue that totally rewrites the narrative.
We used to think of this sort of thing as cute. Not cute-like-a-kitten cute, but in the vein of, “It’s cute how they actually seem to believe this stuff inside of their tiny circle of total wankers.”
But the wankers are in charge now. They’re in charge at the White House, they’re in charge on half of Capitol Hill, they’ll soon be in charge of the Supreme Court, and — most importantly — they’re in charge of the Mainstream Media.
So it’s no longer some insular circle of wankers peddling crap. The crap is now the narrative. It’s no longer enough to get the truth out. You’ve got to sell that truth like it’s the hottest new sitcom pilot. You’ve got to make that truth sing. It has to tell a story. You have to be louder and more entertaining and more truthful than the wankers.
Because otherwise, it doesn’t matter what really happened in Lansing yesterday. It doesn’t matter what happens in Washington tomorrow. The only thing that matters is what people believe, and how far along the road to ruin that will take us.

Oh, of course Crowder provoked them. By standing for a point of view they didn’t agree with. It was mental assault. He hurt their minds. [and did you really describe these people as circle wankers...?]
Yep, I sure did.
Not to criticize, but isn’t that kind of mean to circle wankers?
The months ahead are going to be trying indeed. It’s important for conservative, libertarian, and other patriotic Americans to not let Obama’s creeps intimidate us, but we must also recognize that they are deliberatly trying to provoke a fight. They know the press won’t report leftist-inspired political intimidation and violence fairly so we have to make sure we don’t fall for it. If there was ever a time to turn the other cheek, it’s now.
In Obama’s America, no one can predict the past.
The funny thing is, is that the moment the left does their “yes…but…” meme (or try to false flag things) they know they’ve lost the argument.
All you have to do is show the video of Crowder’s actual assault. Twisting yourself into a pretzel only underscores that you ARE a pretzel, and that your politics require fake nuance to maintain purity.
Let them hand wring over the Crowder assault. They’ll only convince the echo chamber (and indeed, I think that’s all they’re aiming to convince). Regular joe schmo and jane doe down the street will smell bullshit from a mile away.
Just wanted to point out that my pretzel line was for the left, not the right. They’re the ones who are trying to twist themselves into a tizzy. The right doesn’t need to.
It goes like this:
The Right: “Here’s the video, in full. No editing.”
The Left: “PRETZEL! PRETZEL! Look, a squirrel! SQUIRREL!”
The Right: “This is the video. Still.”
The Left: “PAY ATTENTION TO MY PRETZEL DEFENSE, BUTTFACE.”
I’m done here.
That’s all well and good. But as I think OGH is trying to say and I noted a couple-ish weeks ago here, Nov 6th showed that 51+% of the voting public are pretzels. They believe and embrace the pretzel logic. That nice Schmoe couple that can smell bullshit are in the minority that’s outta power.
Or to steal from Jason
The Right: Here’s the video, in full. No editing.
The Left: PRETZEL! PRETZEL! Look, a squirrel! SQUIRREL!
51% of The Public: Aw. What a cute squirrel.
Seriously — there was fraud. Massive amounts of fraud. They convinced MAYBE 48% of the voting public. MAYBE. Don’t give up. The new media is having an effect — it just wasn’t strong enough YET. But don’t give up. That’s what they want you to do.
Won’t give up. But it really encourages my “hate other people” default position.
Kevin, a counterpoint:
Does anyone remember the Tray on Martin case? Not since the Zimmerman defense posted the photos and video of him bloodied and beaten. It only works when you can hide the truth. With Crowder, he has the unedited video at his disposal. That’s going to go down the left’s memory hole real fast, because they can’t bullshit their way around it. Glenn Reynolds’army of davids is here, and they are armed with flip cameras.
Obama, as Sarah Hoyt said, Obama snookered 48-51% of the public. That’s alot less than in 2008. With the ascension of new media and the crumbling of the old left media, it will be even less in 2014 and 2016.
These cute, but really not-so-cute, carebears expect us to reward them for their thoughts. Their selfless thoughts, which of course are only selfless to them in their beautiful minds, but to the rest of us mammals, are of course selfISH.
Too bad the carebear stare burns my eyes.
…Or was that Pelosi? Wasser-schultz?
