Will the Last Fiscal Con Please Turn Out the [CLICK]

Senator Jim DeMint will step down next month to head the Heritage Foundation.
That’s one less sane voice on fiscal issues on the Hill, and such perfect timing.

And to think I was worried about losing Paul Ryan in the House…
Hmm, probably an apocryphal story, but I seem to recall a tale regarding William F. Buckley and a colleague stipulateing the ruination of western civilization during the 1990′s. They were heard to say, “…but the decline will be gradual and it will be possible to live well before the end.”
Why shouldn’t rational conservatives cash out?
Does anyone ever voluntarily give up power like this? I really admire DeMint but fear there is a shoe waiting to drop here.
Washington did. Twice.
And most presidents before FDR.
I don’t think you’ll hear any shoes drop. DeMint just made a calculation; SC has a republican governor who will appoint a replacement. That replacement will have four years before he faces an election; he will at that time be the incumbent and therefore with a little advantage and he will have some experience and some little record to run on. Someone suggested that DeMint would recommend Tim Scott be appointed. He’s a young black politician from the low country. He ain’t Allen West but he would be a good choice.
correction; the appointee would have two years before facing reelection; not four.
