From earlgrey133 in response to Ramesh Ponnuru’s latest:
I am torn between walking away and giving Obama everything he wants and just letting the country have what they voted for.
Yeah. That.

Torn? HELL NO! Look Steve I’m done fighting the good fight. It’s time for tough love and painful lessons.
If 52% of the voting public are too stupid to discontinue the economic horror show that has been our economy of late then give the me-first morons every last bit of their due. If they want to emulate Greece and Spain so that evil white men leave their lady parts and medicare and voting ID laws alone then it’s time the rest of us go Galt and let them have some really tough f##king love. I’m serious. lets get on with it. Uncoil the rope and hand it to them. Give the left everything they want but make them explain how their policies are going to save us. Keep them on record and accountable and never let them forget their answers.
Tax hikes? Sure! Keynsian spending increases? Why not. Funding for every stinking touchy feely social program! Have at it. Heck, fire all the INS officers while you’re at it and invite everyone in. Give them health care and welfare and SS benefits and let them sit on their collective asses sucking on our marrow. It’s the blue states that’ll hurt the worse and the blue states that deserve the most. Why should I spend any more energy and frustration trying to save them from their own impulses.
They keep explaining how much smarter they are than everyone else. Lets give eletist jackasses the the chance to prove it.
100% in agreement. There’s really nothing else to say.
We are speeding straight toward the iceberg now, and we have decided not to turn around. There is nothing to argue about anymore. It’s all rearranging deck chairs now.
Yeah, right. Let’m play and make’m pay. Move that deck chair; a little to the right, yeah, just so. That’ll teach’em. ‘Cept, we’re on this thing together. “She’s made of iron. I assure you, she can sink.”
How many souls went to the bottom when Titanic met the ‘berg? How many survived? What are your chances? What are mine?
However much fun it may be to thumb your nose at the driver, we must try to steer thing away from disaster.
The point you might be missing is: There is no driver.
Stephen,
I am impressed, and honored at your rapid response! I am about to honor a Wisconsin tradition; it being Friday, fried fish and adult beverage are the menu. Cheers! Suggest you do your local equivalent. Neither of us should be on the ‘puter.
Feel free to “moderate” this from the thread.
It’s too late now. Or, rather, it’ll be too late four years from now. I just want to be sitting on the stern of the ship so that the last thing the blue staters see is me flipping them off.
I’m fine with us heading towards the ice berg without a ship captain (not a driver), just as long as there’s a bartender.
And don’t forget someone to re-arrange the deck chairs.
I’ll be honest, it took me a couple of seconds to get this. I re-read it a couple of times, each time thinking, “but they’re the same thing!” I thought I was missing some subtlety in his logic.
Then it click that that was the point….
I’ll avoid any pretense of originality and just say what I said in an earlier post:
Let.It.Burn.
Take a page from The One’s book-vote “Present”. Let’em have it. It’s all on these economic imbeciles who think they can like some Keynes nightmare spend and borrow their way to prosperity.
It didn’t woprk for the Romans, nor the Brits, nor the Soviets, nor the PIGS. It won’t work here either. But let’s give them what they want. After all, voting “Present” is courageous, right? Look where it got this hack.
