Well, you’re wrong, it was Mitt Romney who created the concept of Private Equity which gave rise to the dangerous double-plus ungood non-truth that business is in business to make money. That was fast. Not even 24 hours went by. Did the BCTGM continue to not answer the phone as they apparently have done since November 9? I can hardly wait for the inevitable “insider exposé” books that will show the timeline since yesterday.

Like you say, Twinkies will survive. The union didn’t destroy the brand. All they did was to eliminate the bakery jobs, like so many unions before them. Many of those jobs will now be done elsewhere, maybe in a right-to-work state or in Mexico. Some of the jobs will not come back, because without the existing training and institutional memory of the former employees it will be cheaper to purchase capital equipment that does the same thing.
And a few more blue-collar neighborhoods will evaporate. What young people remain will either leave or languish (probably childless). De-urbanization will proceed apace. And generations of capital accumulation will continue to run down like an ignored clock.
