Nah Nah Nah Nah?
What’s the big secret of the election? Obama is losing. John Nolte collects the evidence:
It’s 8:21 on a Saturday morning and according to this photo snapped by Sharon Broadie, this is the size of the crowd that showed up in Powell, Ohio, (just outside of Columbus) to see Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan:
Here’s a look at the line to get in, and another look at the crowd from another source. And a real jaw-dropper.
Meanwhile, President FailureTeleprompter is relegated to rationalizing his lack of turnout into a “deliberate” desire for smaller, more intimate crowds. Yeah, that sounds like the Mr. Greek Column we’ve all come to know and grow tired of.
Read the whole thing — it’s about a lot more than just crowd sizes.
But Obama losing isn’t really a secret. It’s more like the elephant in the living room.
Or should I say “in the Oval Office?”

And the Columbus area, along with Cleveland & Toledo, is a traditional Democrat area. BTW, any numbers on the Marcy Kaptur vs. Joe the Plumber race? The new 9th District combines the Democrat part of Toledo (which I’m in by justthismuch) with Cleveland, so Marcy should be comfortably ahead. If it is at all a contest, then Ohio is going Republican in November.
Uh, oh…The key to Ohio is in the exurban ring around Columbus. Democrats depend on majorities in the northeast of state to offset the deficit in the southwest of the state and rural areas generally. Columbus and its environs has the largest concentration of voters with the city itself leaning D and the exurbs up for grabs. It’s where state-wide contests are now decided in the state. If Romney scores in towns like Powell, Ohio is his.
‘It’s more like the elephant in the living room.
Or should I say “in the Oval Office?”’
The elephant hasn’t arrived yet. It is “the ass in the Oval Office”.
RR will score big just with the Clingers’ votes. The Clingers are the ones fueling the only growing industry in Obamaland.
I’m cheering for Romney and all, but I can read a poll. You are going to sound really, really dumb when Obama wins.
You can? I’ve been reading polls for 30 years, and I can’t make sense out of this year’s.
But I can read a campaign, and Obama’s reeks of desperation. The nastiness might be enough for him to win — but to accomplish what?
All campaigns are nasty, brutish, and far too long. Yeah, Obama’s had some reverses, and done some stupid things, but the underlying numbers are stable, which says to me that either nobody cares, or the Romney camp has been equally dumb(both of which I’d find to be credible hypotheses).
When Nate Silver shades Pennsylvania red, then I’ll accept your level of optimism. While Florida is blue, then any “Romney will win for sure” spin sounds like you’re either a paid PR flack for the GOP, or you’re cherry-picking hard enough to delude yourself. This is a close race, and one that’s tilted Obama’s way. Mockery is fine(nay, encouraged), but don’t forget the big picture.
As for what Obama would accomplish, I think the obvious answer is keeping Obamacare in place for long enough to go live(and thereby become even harder for us to kill), and maybe getting a Supreme Court justice in if one of ours keels over.
It would seem to be my lot in this election to keep saying this; over, and over, and over again…
I quote a famous Democratic Party consultant when I say: “It’s the economy, stupid!”
Now. If you think that worked for Clinton in ’92, but it won’t work for Romney in ’12, I’m all ears… Metaphorically.
For the slow learners: unemployment over 8% (remember when 5.5% was scandalous?), even absent those who’ve stopped looking for work; energy prices through the roof; economic growth at (best) 2% per flipping year; $5 TRILLION new debt in 3 1/2 years…
And you think he’s in good shape? I think we’ve found Baghdad Bob’s hiding place, folks.
