The hunters should have kept the drone! It’s worth about 2K. Could have sold it on ebay and bought more guns.
What’s interesting about these drones is the flight control system. What used to cost 50-100K and fill a big ATR box, now costs 400.00 and will fly just about anything. Take the same electronics, add servo amps and appropriate servos and you could turn an old Cessna into a autonomous flying platform, surveillance or weapons.
Like all tech, these new flight control systems have a bright side as well as a dark side. The dark side I mentioned above. The bright side is soon your car will drive itself (think the two high speed lanes on the freeway). Aircraft large and small can or will have an “Ah Shit!” button that takes over control of the aircraft and lands it if necessary and so on.
Said drone was anything but shot. Bird shot (this was a pigeon shoot, they would have been using shotguns with bird shot) at the ranges they were flying the thing at would have taken off most, if not all of the rotors, and it would have come down like a brick. Any kind of rifle shot would have completely destroyed the thing, and there would likely be a nifty hole and resulting fire from that LiPo battery.
This thing landed under power with narry a hole in it.
The crash in question was caused by an amateur pilot. Ask anyone who’s been flying any kind of R/C helicopter for any amount of time, and they’ll tell you the first thing that goes bang when you botch a landing are the rotor blades, with damage exactly similar to what is shown.
Sweeeet
“S.H.A.R.K.”?? Do they come from a Kevin Smith movie or something?
