This reminds me of Iraq back in the 90s. Maybe Saddam had WMDs, maybe he didn’t. But he kept acting like a total freakin’ nutcase and scaring the crap out of everybody – and look what it got him. Same thing with Iran. One minute they’re developing peaceful nuclear energy, next minute they’re going to annihilate Israel and rain death on America and maybe even bring on the Xth Mullah’s apocalypse or whatever it’s called. Didn’t they learn anything from the events of 1991? Or of 2003?
Sure, Iraq is still there and yeah, maybe we’re leaving without accomplishing “the mission” (whatever the hell that ever was). But where are Saddam and his Baathist thugs now? The Mullahs and their wacky side man Mahmoud seem eager to find out. Their behavior sends a clear message to the world: “We’re totally out of control. Please destroy us like the mad dogs we are.”
There is Nothing wrong with them. As intelligent, astute battlers committed to whatever their cause, have measured the potential for resistance to their announced intentions. As in Neville Chamberlain and we all know how that wish among Western “Leaders” for a quiet life ended, don’t we? Or do we?.
The only true fighters for their freedom and independence these mullahs and their followers fear is that small group of people who have been – literally – here before in suffering from the Chamberlainian and western nations allies inactions in mid-twentieth century. Have the memory literally etched into their skins, over-etched as Never Again.
Read “Spengler” (AKA David Goldman). The problem is that Muslims are losing (have lost) the idea that their culture will prevail. For example, Iranian fertility rates have gone through the fastest decline in history. If you are (as an Iranian) convinced that your society is going to be toast, you may well decide to go out in the deadliest way you can imagine.
This is not a case of states behaving rationally. It is a case of states behaving suicidally.
This was apparently not a critical target at this stage. So I doubt the Israelis would waste their own assets on it. Much more likely to be a dissident group. Maybe with some Israeli/US assistance (bomb making instruction, materials)
1) had a specific target, and that it was replicated throughout the Internet, yet simply replicated itself and then removed itself from any system that was not its target,
But that it also
2) had many references to the Showtime (or is it HBO?) television series Dexter
Has made many in the Tech Community come to the conclusion the SuxtNet is a U.S. creation. But the Dexter Reference is a clear indicator that the creators are also NOT of the Government. One thing you can take to the bank is that if it were a Government Effort it would lack any sense of humor!
Iran has been at war with us for 10 years (over 30, depending on how you define “war”). Sooner or later, we will have to react, even if we haven’t yet.

“What is wrong with them?” rhetorical question.

“Once is happenstance. twice is circumstance, three times is enemy action.”

Us, the Israelis, internal enemies; it could be anyone.
But whoever it is, I hope they keep it up.
