Who’s Flying This Thing?

With the Space Shuttle program over and the Russians having Soyuz trouble — the International Space Station might have to be abandoned this winter.
I’d hate to be the first guy back who has to get that thing up and running. I can barely remember to crank the water heaters back up after a vacation.

Returning to an abandoned dark space station? Isn’t that the premise for every space horror movie…like…ever?
This will not end well.
Unexpectedly.
They sincerely thought they could leave the Russians with space monopoly and get away with it? How reality-based of them. I predict the Soyuz program will suddenly get rid of their problems after a few goodwill “donations” from the US and Japan, finantial or otherwise.
I mean, nobody thinks the recent Soyuz crashes were coincidence, right?
After Boeing’s experience with Russian aircraft design I would have imagined that our space plans would have been very different. BA had to basically throw out their Russian bureau’s entire portion of the new 747-8 and start afresh onshore, adding almost 6 month to the design cycle.
Then again, given the administration’s overall attitude concerning Boeing I am not surprised they opted to ignore their experience.
Maybe the Chinese will buy it.
Isn’t SpaceX’s Dragon capsule docking with the station in November? Its supposed to be a test, but if successful, it should not be too long before we can send people back up.
