Gingrich: It Ain’t Over Until the Fat Lady Begins to Warm Up
June 24th, 2011 - 10:57 am
The latest from Newt is just sad:
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said he’s confident he’ll still be a candidate by the time of Iowa’s influential caucuses early next year.
Gingrich, whose campaign has endured difficulties including the departures of top aides and finance officials, said he would still be competing in the key nominating contest.
“Sure, of course,” Gingrich said before a Maryland Republican Party fundraiser here when asked if he could state definitively that he’d still compete in the caucuses.
Inspring stuff.

Sure, Newt. So, tell me… whom have you hired to replace your entire staff? What? No one, because no professional campaign operative will touch you with a ten-foot pole? They won’t even return your calls? The word is out? Aww, geez, Newt, I feel so sorry for you….
“The influential Iowa Caucuses” are part of the problem. Why should they be influential? It’s a bunch of corn farmers sitting around shooting the shit. Big Deal.
I’m for a long primary campaign followed by a one-day vote. KA-BLOOWIE. Why do we have the current system? To make it easier for candidates to pander to special interests? What would Iowa and New Hampshire do if the system changed? Refuse to vote, vote Democrat out of spite?
“Why do we have the current system? To make it easier for candidates to pander to special interests?”
**Ironically the opposite. If I remember correctly, the primary system was born in the Progressive Era as a method of bringing the nomination process “to the people” and out of the “smoke-filled rooms” of party elders, etc. Like the income tax, the direct election of senators, this is another progressive idea with unintended consequences.
Maybe it ain’t over for Gingrich (and the rest) until the fat MAN* begins to sing.
*hint – do you really need a hint?
