This story is absolutely horrifying. My 11 and 9 year old sons keep begging me to let them use FB, MySp, etc. to start blogging and vlogging. Our position has been absolutely not for the outright fear that something like the Jessi Slaughter scenario could emerge. A shared Gmail account (that we audit regularly) provides enough, uh, “entertainment”.
Kids; the weather is beautiful outside. Get a soccer ball, basketball, whatever and go play for a few hours.
At one level I’m upset, but at another I’m laughing at the train wreck. She isn’t the only girl (or boy) to put up that kind of trash-talking video on YouTube. Ace had one a couple months ago of a girl (it’s hard to tell on the vid{g}) waving a 2″ pipe around, bragging how she was gonna bust some heads if those MF’ers came around, then announced which town she lived in, in WV. The reason she was upset? An online RPG. Sheesh.
So at one level, she runs her mouth, and gets napalmed. That’s about as dumb as walking into a biker bar, calling everyone there a punch of pansies, then getting upset when you get your ass kicked.
On the other hand, they were just words. Rude, vulgar words, but that’s all. What those people did to her was just this side of psychotic. Me, I’d turn off the video and ignore her, but I have a life.
