Honestly, at this point I have to wonder if the Democrats are trying to incite a revolt. They’re actually talking openly about seizing millions of 401(k) accounts? For the promise of an IOU down the line? When the “lock box” fraud has already proven to be just that? When Social Security and government health care are already insolvent to the tune of $53 trillion-with-a-T? And ObamaCare adds how much more to the bill?
Look here. Washington spends money. That’s what it exists to do. It spends all the money it can appropriate. And then it spends some more. And when Washington can’t borrow money anymore, it will seize it, apparently. And when there’s no money left to steal, Washington will simply print more money, and spend that. Because Washington doesn’t save money. Washington doesn’t invest money. Washington certainly doesn’t make any money.
And if they get away with this multi-trillion-dollar theft, we’ll be beggars. People who didn’t borrow. People who spent less than they made. People who saved money, invested money, people who worked hard and wisely for a better future — these people will be made into beggars. People who did the exact right thing, will be reduced to wards of a state that can’t even feed itself.
Is that what these fools in Congress are aiming for? It’s getting hard to draw any other conclusion.

Washington will do whatever it can to avoid cutting their spending. They will seize all of our assets that they can, and tell us they are doing it to protect us. “Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.” –William Pitt
Of course, the Dems’ philosophy has worked sooo well here in California where we’re on the continual verge of bankruptcy and no one has the guts to pull the plug.
DeToqueville said (paraphrasing): the American experiment in republican democracy will last until the legislatures figure out that the people can be bought with their own money. We have almost certainly reached that stage. “Favors” in exchange for campaign donations is the name of the game. We will either clean up the mess we have created or lose our republic. The people need to rise up and stop the nonsense, get back to our roots, as envisioned by the incredibly wise founders of our country. We also need to focus on education in our schools and stop the indoctrination of our youth. Teach history – real facts, not cherry picked incidents deemed important by “social justice” crusaders and public employee unions. Social justice is no more than a code word for socialism or communism, to make it more palatable to the masses. Socialist Washington’s financial appetite for other people’s money can never be appeased – the beast must continually be fed, until we end up like Greece.
Quick answer: Yes.
Steve, don’t you remember the governments not-so-new policy concerning crisis?
Never let one go to waste.
And if you don’t have one?
Well, make one…
I’m beginning to think so. Keeping us perpetual beggars and imprison or kill (see reeducation camps) and making us perminately dependent on dhimocrats seems to be their goal.
Might look at Mark Levin’s archives, He did an interview with the pointy headed professor who proposed this a year or so back.

If this happens, I predict bloodshed. I’m not advocating it but the theft of trillions of dollars will cause violence.
There are millions of us (over 60 million) who have 401Ks. For most of us, that’s the only retirement plan we have, perhaps along with IRAs. We work hard and spend less than we earn. We save as much as we can for the days when we can’t work any more, then hope we don’t outlive our savings. We’re facing the prospects of massive tax increases to pay for the guaranteed retirements of public employees, leaving us to eat dog food while they get to eat steak. In short, we’re chumps. Should they take our retirement savings, I sadly predict that some of the chumps will become violent.
The thing is, such a grab would not be all at once. Only some very select people would be targeted at first, and only for a little bit. You know, those mean, nasty, rich swine that aren’t pulling their fair share. Once the principle is established it is much easier to expand who has to “be patriotic”. See also the Sixteenth Amendment.
I don’t think they’re trying to provoke insurrection; rather they (or most of them) really do believe that they’re on “a mission from God,” and they’re doing the Right Thing.
There’s few things more dangerous than someone who truly believes in something…
Ok, let me get this straight.
First, the government is considering imprisoning US citizens suspected of “terrorism” indefinitely without trial.
Second, Pelosi was telling members of the clergy that they had to tell their church members that they have to back the Democrat’s view of the immigration issue in their sermons.
Third, government “anonymous sources” are leaking private information to smear individuals and companies in ways not unlike was seen in 1930′s Germany by a rather charismatic leader’s people.
Fourth, the government is seriously thinking of taking my 401k away from me and giving me an IOU.
I was always told by Democrats that these were the things that scared them about the Republicans. I guess this really is change after all.
There are a lot of variations on the theme. Should they decide they just don’t want to allow further tax deductible contributions, I can probably live with that. If it looks like they seriously are going to do this I will prepare the paperwork to pull all of my money OUT! The day they pass the bill, I take my money out. I know that means I would be giving probably 60% of it to them with penalties and everything, but I will not let them have it all.
But, if they think the public is angry now, yeah, they ain’t seen nothing yet.
