The youth vote went overwhelmingly for President Obama in 2008. Here’s their payback:
Health insurance premiums for young adults are expected to rise about 17 percent once they’re required to buy insurance four years from now. That estimate is from an analysis by Rand Health.
Young people will need to carry more of the burden of health care under the new health overhaul law. The new law limits an industry practice of charging older customers more.

The elderly — with secure SS incomes and usually much greater asset wealth — get fixed prices. The young — with the worst job prospects of the last 75 years and usually nearly zero in assets — get to foot the bill.
How’s that hope and change working out, kids?

You’ve revealed yet another unintended consequence of this floridly bad “Health Care” bill: It inevitably pits young against old in a ruthless fight for government orchestrated dwindling resources. Sick.
The current crop of pols, from BOTH sides of the spectrum are almost certainly the worst that have ever governed. I’m almost persuaded that Cloward-Piven have it nearly right with a few minor adjustments: This growing Social Justice Race-based Communistic malignancy must be brought down by its own weight and replaced with true pure Capitalism and genuine individual Liberty.
When the old synthesis becomes the new thesis, the old thesis becomes the new antithesis.
Ah, but you don’t understand, by 2014, those who voted for him are no longer “youths”. In a year or two, they will enjoy their healthcare benefits like us old folks do. By the time they needed hip-replacements, they would have years of practice using crutches instead, saving a lot of healthcare dollars from the unnecessary hip-replacement procedures.
Ah. But how likely is it that this will be accomplished peacefully? I’m having increasingly serious doubts that this can happen. I think the political system is simply too corrupt to allow for a peaceful transition. There are too may entrenched interests willing to f*ck us citizens over.
The rather fuzzy line between simple crony capitalism (bad enough in its own right) and outright fascism is gradually being crossed. Short of armed insurrection, I fear we’re stuck with the ever-expanding, rights-stealing, soft totalitarianism of the Left. I hope I’m wrong. I hope the Tea Party movement is authentic and brings about a sea-change in our political process. I fear not, though.
There seems to be a disconnect between cause and effect, or more to the point, actions and the consequences of those actions. Those in power seem to think that even if they make a mistake (no matter how big) they will never have to take the blame for it. Time after time, when the easily predicted long term effects of a policy are pointed out, our “leaders” always (as in every.single.time) take the easy short term way out.
This crap-sandwich is no different. Those who voted for this thing do not think that they will ever pay the price for its failures. They (and that includes the Won) feel that any future failures can be blamed on any future administration and congress. They were there for HISTORY damn it! If the future can’t manage the gift they gave it, its the future’s fault not theirs.
I’m sure the Won figures he’ll be teaching at Harvard by the time anything really (as in obviously) bad happens. That’s the way the bill seems to be written anyway. It just makes me sick to see supposedly smart people act like a bunch of 6 year olds.

If it weren’t for the deep concern I have for my young grandchildren’s future, I’d find this funny. I have 4 grandchildren all less than 6 years old. What the hell are we leaving as a legacy and inheritance as a nation to young children?
Massive debt.
Massive taxes to pay for the massive debt and bloated entitlement programs.
A country spiraling down the drain as the economy flounders.
Yeah, chaning their diapers wasn’t any fun but they deserve a chance at a better future than what we’ve leaving. They will curse us for all time, rightfully so.
I hope the Tea Party movement is authentic and brings about a sea-change in our political process. I fear not, though.
Then join them, NH. Make a difference.
I know a few kidz who voted for Obama, and to them four years is such an eternity that threats that far out have no meaning. In 2012, when they vote again, the threat will be a year or two out. By then they may be aware enough to perceive the vague shape of a threat, and that it can be ameliorated by taking a government job. I don’t think they’ll ever really get what they did with their stupid, frivolous votes.
Hey Steve!
What is all the anxiety and disturbance about?? A look at history from ancient Greece on can tell you that things just keep getting better. In the, what one may call, Pre Fabian era of my parents youth, life was indeed harsh. Mother at 14, just out of grammar school, started her 48 hour weeks in a Connecticut garment factory. The Early Fabian period of my youth was not much better with a long, deep depression, little effected by the New Deal; then a dreadful war. Coinciding with my early middle years came what I will call Early Middle Fabianism. A few years earlier my partner and I started a medical practice. We had from the beginning chosen to treat anyone that came to us regardless of ability to pay and would not consider the use of a collection agency. A fairly common practice then. We earned a good living. Then, in the mid 1960s came Medicare. That first year my income almost doubled with but a 20 percent or so increase in the workload. Now for each patient a regular full fee bill sent to Medicare was promptly paid. Truly wonderful . In my ninth decade my wife and I are still well served by the system. As soon as it gets warmer we will continue our custom of a flight across the country (first class, of course) and a 2 week stay in NY to enjoy theater, art, music, fine dining etc. In July, Paris for 3 weeks in a rented apartment on Ile Saint Louis. First class air again. In October a repeat in New York. We remain secure that the free health care we receive will allow us to conserve our capital for the new Mercedes or BMW autos our grandchildren will be able buy in the all too near future. Happily paying their taxes for this are my gardener, barber, cleaning woman, the nice barista at the coffee shop, and my other lovely people that don’t even know me and probably chose Obama for his intention to heal the planet. This new law marks our entry into a robust, Mature Middle Fabian period. The future indeed looks bright!
I already have. I’m participating in leadership meetings this weekend and next, leading up to the tax day protests. I’m definitely putting my money where my mouth is. I’m not willing to have my kids inherit this mess.
But isn’t this a blessing in disguise?
The best way to nurture conservatism is to expose young voters to the worst that state socialism can do to them. Lessons learned the hard way, stay learnt.
