Never Give Up, Never Surrender
Our nation’s capital — where bad ideas go to get out on permanent life support and you get the bill. Read the latest on Cap & Screw:
“We will present senators with a number of options when they get back from recess,” said one Senate aide knowledgeable of the compromise legislation that is being developed. The goal is to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that scientists say threaten Earth.
Of course, this is the same legislation which languished in the Senate before the AGW Debacle of the last three months. And before the Democrats lost their veto-proof majority. And before the health care reform bill scared enough Americans into paying attention to the shenanigans on Capitol Hill.
So don’t be too nervous that this thing will pass. But do be scared out of you mind by the stubbornly statist stupidity of the Congressional leadership.

I’m beginning to think that Obama really does want his party to lose control of both houses of congress this November, that way he can run against a Republican congress in 2012. That is the only rational explanation for pushing this (and all the other) crap at this particular moment. The alternative (that these people really ARE that stupid/crazy) is (as you suggest) too horrible to contemplate.
The dems response to loosing their 60 vote majority will be to redefine all legislation as tax or budget bills and pass with 51 votes. They were unwilling to take this radical step as long as it wasn’t the only way. In short now they can make their legislation even more radical because they can afford to loose eight members of their caucas. The left in our government have lost all touch with reality and truly don’t understand how angry this will make the American People. They think that at worst they’ll lose some senators and congressman but that even if they lose both majorities it won’t be enough to repeal the 111th congress due to Obama’s veto power. Their belief is that by Jan. 2013 their agenda will be too entrenched to undo. The possiblity that the people might go to Washington and actualy tear the democrats to pieces with their bare hand may not have occured to them.
Adobe,
I think the President is playing his own party for fools. He has convinced them that failing to pass the agenda will mark them as failures and thus lose more seats. The reality is it would mark HIM as a failure. He is willing to sacrifice the democratic majority to help secure his 2nd term. My fear is that some of them are just stupid enough to buy into it.
One of the very few truthful statements Obama’s made may be that he’s willing to be a one term president. I think he believes getting his agenda passed will secure his place in history and going “home on his shield” will further enhance that image. I’m sure he feels he’ll do well in his post presidential career. If his presidency ends after one term Obama will see that as a heroic sacrifice. I doubt the democratic senators or congressmen would believe or could even understand this even if Obama stated it too them, if this could be made comprehensible to them the dawning realization on their faces would be priceless. That there are no sacrifices Obama and Peloise are not willing for them to make, may be occuring to some of the less cynicly challenged, the idea that he’s willing to sacrifice his second term surely exceeds their comprehension skills. That he and his minions could destroy his party particularly if they redifine reconciliation has not yet crossed the democratic leaderships minds. Amazingly the possibility that he could displace James Buchanan in the rankings hasn’t occured to President Obama either. The Bolshevik kool-aid is that potent.
Robert Byrd is very passionate about the Senate’s privileges and traditions. I wonder what his views on this are. Or if he’s even aware of them at this point.
RBJ –
Dude, that was harsh. I never even would have gone there.
Well… not sober, anyway.
The possiblity that the people might go to Washington and actualy tear the democrats to pieces with their bare hand may not have occured to them.
You’ve just given me the most giggalicious image of Arlen Specter being turned up-side-down shoeless in a bank of snow.
@rbj:
Is the Senator from West Virginia aware?
If not, maybe he could consult with the Senator from Timbuktoo.

I’m not sure “giggalicious” was the effect I was hoping for. I did mean that statement almost literaly I honestly believe these nit wits truly don’t comprehend how angry Americans are becoming. However I’m glad you enjoyed my post.
Stephen, yeah, maybe harsh, but I am actually interested in knowing how healthy he is. Do they just wheel him in when they need his vote? Is he able to think for himself or do the Dems just tell him how to vote.
Back when I was in South Carolina, Michael Graham was writing for a local lefty paper (which actually had the guts to publish a conservative column). He always referred to Strom Thurmond as R-Walter Reed.
Oh my, a “Galaxy Quest” reference.
