No wonder the White House is walking back its decision to try KSM in NYC — there’s virtually zero political constituency for it, even in one of the most liberal delegations to Congress. From The Hill:
Only one New York Democrat in Congress is pushing for the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to be held in Manhattan.
“We have a world class police department, and I am confident that they have the expertise to adequately secure our city during the trials,” said Rep. Yvette Clarke in a statement.
AdvertisementClarke is the only New York Democrat in Congress in favor of holding the trials in New York City.
On the campaign trail, Team Obama perfectly — I mean, perfectly — read the political terrain and again, perfectly, captured the political zeitgeist. But when it comes to actually governing, they’re too far to the left of… well, pretty much everybody but Yvette Clarke.

Don’t know that the Obama-ites read things so well, as they were successful issuing multiple ambiguous messages which allowed various groups to interpret them to their hearts content. For example, Obama convinced gay rights activists he was right behind them, while at the same time reassuring black voters that he considered marriage “sacred,” and was only for one man and one woman.
Pretty cool trick if you can manage it.
This soooo reminds me of Peter Seller’s portrayal of Chancey Gardner in “Being There”. Obama says “Hope”, and a couple of million fans fill in the gaps of what Hope means to them. Obama says Close Gitmo, and again the fan base simply accepts this, without thought of the “how” and “where”.
I’m waiting for our President to utter those words….”I like to watch…”.
Rent the movie, watch it, and tell me we’re not seeing the same thing for real.
