What a Maroon

January 7, 2010 - 9:42 am - by Stephen Green

Via Michelle Malkin comes this Very Special D’oh! Moment from Senator Ben Nelson:

Sen. Ben Nelson said Tuesday it was a mistake for the Obama Administration to take on massive health care reforms in 2009, and suggested efforts would have been better spent addressing the economy.

Does Nelson mean to say that viciously increasing the size, scope, and expense of government while simultaneously saddling the economy with an untold number of new regulations and requirements, and upending every single person’s health care options during a time of increasing joblessness, shrinking credit, crashing property values and general economic uncertainty might not have the smartest thing in the world?

Ben Nelson is trying to save his rear end. The price he was paid for betraying his constituents is now deemed insufficient. Nelson is stunned by the anger of the Nebraska citizenry. He bought into Harry Reid’s myth that he was going be turned into a popular hero. Nelson will now do what he can to subtly scuttle the legislation.

    Don’t jinx it.

He is saying no such thing. He is saying that it is a lovely package, with lovely ideas. Just the timing of presenting it was off a bit.

He is defending the thing from soup to nuts. Saying that all the criticisms of it are hogwash.

Just that, it should have been held back until the economy got better…then the frogs would have not noticed they were being boiled one degree at a time.
