The Descent Into Madness

January 6, 2010 - 1:57 pm - by Stephen Green

Andrew Sullivan would have the US & NATO invade Israel.

Invade. Israel.

Yes, Israel.

No, I’m not kidding. Here are his own (?) words:

My own view is moving toward supporting a direct American military imposition of a two-state solution, with NATO troops on the borders of the new states of Palestine and Israel.

You can’t counter an argument like that. All you can do is marvel that this is the same man who made so much sense in the hard, scary months after 9/11.

UPDATE: Maybe I’m reading too much into Andrew’s semantics, but he says there should be NATO troops on the borders of “the new states.” States, plural. Does this mean he wants the US Army dismantle the current Jewish state?

  1. My normal inclination would be to feel pity for someone who has obviously gone insane, but in Andrew’s case, I think that I’ll stick with pointing and laughing.

Actually, the reason he wants the US to invade Israel is because he thinks that Sarah Palin’s uterus is hiding there.

  2. I’ve been saying for years that AIDS has twisted his mind. He’s truly gone around the bend.

I’m surprised, though. Who’d've thought he had the time to formulate an opinion on Israel, given his ongoing, exhaustive examination of Sarah Palin’s uterus? There is certainly no greater conspiracy to crack than the truth about Trig.

  3. Dammit, pg. You beat me to it!

What’s worse is that it’s still not the most bat$@*t crazy thing he’s said THIS MONTH and will probably change his position on the matter 4 more times today, smearing his critics all the while.

Why is a gay man so interested in a specific woman’s reproductive organs?

I don’t know if it’s AIDS’ caused dementia, but Andrew really has gone off the deep end. I can’t even point & laugh at this point. Very sad.

  6. 6. Carol

Invading Israel. Now there’s a war the Left would love.

  7. “All you can do is marvel that this is the same man who made so much sense in the hard, scary months after 9/11.”

I don’t marvel at all. In Sully’s case, it’s all about the Jews.

He may not even realize how much of a Jew hater he actually is.

As far EU and US troops moving on Israel, that won’t happen except in Sully’s wet dreams. This time, the Jews are armed.

  8. 8. mwl

Good luck getting the Germans to sign up for that one, Sully.

  9. 9. Al in St. Lou

Oh, he’s lost his mind all right. I don’t understand why his friends and family continue to allow him to embarrass himself. It’s way past time for an intervention.

  10. 10. Captain Ned

I’m assuming that his two-state solution is based on the Palestinians receiving the entire West Bank, including Old Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. I think he’s read Clancy’s “Sum of All Fears” too many times and replaces the Swiss Guards with the US Army.

As if the US Army would ever attempt to remove Israeli control over Old Jerusalem.

It’s a useful reminder of who our adversaries are.

  12. I don’t understand why his friends and family continue to allow him to embarrass himself.

Because he’s getting paid for it, paid a lot.

    Dope logic.

It is a predicament when the world’s leading advocate for gay civil rights (a worthy cause), is himself a gusher of antisemitism, anticatholicism and antievangelicalism.

Let’s not forget his crusade against circumcision as “the mutilation of boys”, his indiscriminate use of the terms neoconservative and AIPAC as loaded epithets for Jews, and his one-sided treatment of Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah and Hamas, (a treatment in which Israel, the sole protector of gay civil rights in the region, falls short). He has also given Stephen Walt a favorable mention recently.

His HIV has gone to his mind.

While it’s easy to see why some might be tired of the same old, same old .. this is not a solution.

Frankly, this is taking the old British position prior to the 1948 UN partitioning, with the NATO (read US) playing the part previously done by the British so badly.

Besides, just as “Excitable Andy” grew tired of the Iraq War, he will eventually abandon this position as well.

i have always bristled at charges of aids dementia as a cheap shot against sully’s sexual orientation and medical condition.
there was a time, not so long ago, when his writings were traditionally conservative. his recognition of the threat posed by radical islam and his argument for, and thoughtful analysis of, america’s venture into iraq was cogent and influential. he was an eloquent spokesperson for gay rights and made a solidly conservative case for equal marriage rights.

however, after witnessing his coming unhinged in the last year or so, i must, reluctantly and with sadness, accept a diagnosis of aids dementia as the most reasonable explanation for his ramblings and obsessions of late. his loved ones should convince him to cease his blogging in order to save him the embarrassment of a public demise and tarnishment of his reputation.

  19. 19. McGehee

save him the embarrassment of … tarnishment of his reputation.

Too late. That ship has sailed, struck the iceberg, sunk, been found by deep-sea submersibles, and turned into a tourist attraction.

You can laugh at this all you want. Sullivan has put his finger on the probable course of events in the region.

Prediction: The US will pull troops out of Iraq – and send them here (check the map – it ain’t that long a drive from Baghdad to here) to attempt to impose their garbage solutions. They will fail miserably. But they – and the EU fleet off Lebanon – will try.

Go ahead – hold me to my prediction. I’ve been warning of this precise nightmare for years, and some of Obama’s aides have already spoken of it. And the clock is ticking.

  21. 21. Casey

Sorry, Ruvy; anti-semitism plays well in Berkeley, but here in fly-over country. Not to mention we won’t stand for using US troops against Israel.

  22. One of many complications with a two-state solution: how to you get the Gaza and West Bank Palestinian factions to coexist?

The Number One complication is that the Palestinians want conquest, not peace.

  23. 23. Ruvy

anti-semitism plays well in Berkeley, but [not] here in fly-over country. Not to mention we won’t stand for using US troops against Israel.

We won’t stand? As if you have a choice in the matter? The troops are already in Iraq. All their commanders have to do is point them west towards Israel – “one more assignment and you can all go home”. Flyover country and what you will or will not stand for does not have a great deal to do with any of this, unless your army revolts against its commanders in a major way.

One of many complications with a two-state solution: how to you get the Gaza and West Bank Palestinian factions to coexist?

Easy. You do what you have forbidden the Israeli traitors in Jerusalem to do – butt heads together and shoot anyone who disagrees with your diktat. Do you seriously think that Obama or the elitist who support him would shrink from having dissidents murdered off?

  24. 24. Ruvy

What you folks in the States or Europe can’t comprehend is that too many things have happened here, dictated by American or European leaders, for us to have any faith in your governments at all. Your governments are our enemies and its agents and puppets must be murdered off, one by one if necessary, for this nation to survive as an independent entity.

    Why?

    1. The prime minister initiates a “building freeze” in Judea and Samaria under American pressure.

    2. The security minister orders Jewish homes destroyed as part of this freeze – also under American pressure.

    3. An American general trains Arabs to murder us off.

    4. Israel loses 100 casualties attacking HizbAllah in 2006 BECAUSE OF THE DEMANDS OF CONDALEEZZA RICE AND GEORGE W. BUSH!

    5. Ten thousand loyal Jewish citizens are kicked out of their homes – because of American and European pressure.

    6. Arabs launch a full scale insurrection against the authority of the Israeli regime – and it does virtually nothing – again under American and European pressure. Fifteen hundred Jews die as a result.

Do you seriously think you Americans or Europeans warrant our trust? Your demonstrators shout “Jews to the gas!” So we can trust you to put us in gas chambers – as you did 70 years ago.

Looking at your actions, it is clear who the American and European regimes want in power here. It is you and not the Arabs we really have to fight. And the day will come when we will.

I will refrain from making any remarks about Mr. Sullivan and his sanity, but his argument is just plain nuts.

He acknowledges that both sides have not behaved well, but he fails to understand the relatively minor issues by Israel in comparison to the flagrant evil displayed by their enemy. Then, in true liberal fashion, we equates the two and decides to throw the entire weight of the US military at the problem to provide a wonderful solution for the Palestinians. In other words, lets play the “Moral Equivalence Game” and say that Israel and the Palestinians are on equal footing, and then sacrifice our blood and treasure to build a state for both.

Does he have any idea what that kind of military action will cost in dollars and lives? Israel has an excellent army and air force, and they will defend themselves very well.

And will this bring peace and leave the resolve the problem once and for all? Of course not. History has shown us again and again that the Palestinians doesn’t want peace if Israel exists at all. So from their newly formed country, they’ll launch attacks at Israel. So what does Sully propose to do about that problem? He proposes to put NATO on the border – forever – to keep the two sides apart. NATO, like the UN, is useless without the United States, so his worthless, idiotic solution puts the US military right between Israel and the Palestinians – forever. And why is he proposing this? Oh, because he’s sick and tired of dealing with the problem.

Some solution: we sacrifice tens of thousands of lives to fight Israel so that we can establish an independent state for the Palestinians to use to attack Israel constantly, and we put out military in between the two countries after both sides hate our guts. Oh, yeah, that will work.

There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity: ignorance is curable.
