A New Mile High Tea Partyer?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Colorado is weird. We like our Democrats to be mavericks and our Republicans conservative. Oh, we we really dug Ross Perot back in ’92. Go figure. So it’s easy to make a mistake if you think something that happens here has any national ramifications. But then there is this little item from Denver:
State Rep. Kathleen Curry has changed her voter registration from Democrat to unaffiliated, a move that will require the Gunnison lawmaker to relinquish her positions as speaker pro tem and chairwoman of the House Agriculture Committee.
Curry said she made the change Monday after talking to House Speaker Terrance Carroll, who had appointed Curry to the plum pro tem position.
Curry, a rancher and water expert, said her decision was not based on any single bill, action or person.
“It’s just a matter of where I fit,” she said Tuesday. “But I’m not changing my personality overnight just because I filled out a form. I’m still going to vote my conscience, which the majority of time is with the Democrats.”
Curry said her biggest disagreement with her party came during budget discussions this year. She also voted against a Democratic measure to lift spending limits.
“The Democrats do have a big tent and have always been respectful, but I do feel in leadership you should march in line more than I have,” she said.
I, for one, question the timing.

WTF is a “water expert”?
How does one cultivate “expertise” in the field of hydrology?
Will an expert eventually pinpoint “expertise” as the ultimate cause of the fall of Wester Civilization?
“The Democrats do have a big tent and have always been respectful, but I do feel in leadership you should march in line more than I have,” she said.
What does that mean?
Democrat Defectors know that the 2010 backlash is going to slay them. This changing party tactic is one of absolute fear and desperation. Why do their principles force them to do this after they voted to destroy our medical system?
For smitty: A water expert knows that water runs downhill except when it doesn’t. Ms Curry would know all about when it doesn’t.
Water is wet.
Oh, and it is a molecule formed by one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms.
Smitty, Gary, RBJ,
Water, in the west (that’s the arid, semi desert southwest especially), is the elixer that is the basis for multi-generational interstate lawsuits. A water expert in the west is someone who can fathom the itricacies of water rights law. When Stehpen gets around to it, he’ll confirm that it’s a big deal, Really.
Mark, I do understand. I went to law school in Oregon. Water law is very, very different out west than it is in the east.
And one thing that unites Oregonians and Washingtonians is that they are not going to send Columbia River water down to California.
rbj,
If Colorado didn’t have so many Californians we might get around to building some dams so we could keep our fair share of the Colorado River.
