Wow, I hadn’t heard that Andrew Sullivan got busted for possession of pot. Charges were dropped, questionably, according to the judge involved. It seems the DA insisted the charges be dropped.
Oh, I could go on a rant here, tick off the usual complaints. Here they are in handy list form:
1. It’s amazing the kind of protection you can buy if you switch sides.
2. Briefly consider (then dismiss) “other team” joke relating to 1.
3. Make point about the media feeding frenzy if, say, George Will had been busted for pot.
4. Get distracted at mental image of Will, stoned out of his mind, giggling mindlessly at Harold & Kumar, Chee-toh stains on his bow tie.
5. Get so distracted by 4. that planned rant gets dropped in favor of handy list.
My mental image of Will includes him getting all flustered and demanding of everyone around him, “But what does “pulchritude” mean? What does it mean?”
UPDATE: A retired “felony weight” pot distributor is ready to throw the book at Andrew. “Anybody stupid enough to get busted for dope is a danger to himself and others and should be locked up for the good of society. Dude, if you can’t outsmart a narc . . .”
Dude, indeed.

Getting stoned on pot might do George Will some good.

Personally the part that makes me wonder is:
At the hearing, Collings observed that Sullivan would still have to state on his application that he had been charged with a crime, and he asked both the prosecutor and Sullivan’s attorney, Robert Delahunt Jr. (cousin of U. S. Rep. William D. Delahunt), for more information about why paying the $125 would have “any additional adverse effect.”
In my opinion the only reason to drop the fine is to encourage and enable Sullivan to lie on his Government Immigration paperwork; and the US Attorney’s office is deliberately helping Sullivan to lie to another Government office; my removing the easily found evidence showing that he will be lying.
I didn’t realize this was what the US Attorney’s office did; but I guess the Orwellian naming conventions still apply… how do I contact them to have them assist me as accessories to a crime I’m planning; since that seems to be their job now.
Surely I wouldn’t have to be a liberal for this to apply; that would be discriminatory… is there a list of crimes that they will help citizens (and non-citizens apparently) commit? Anything they won’t do?
Gekkobear, just go to your nearest ACORN office and they’ll help you set up a whore house, you just need to bring the underage girls.

Please do not compare George Will to Andrew Sullivan. It’s not even close.
What do we know about Andrew Sullivan’s family? He must have parents or siblings or uncles. Do any of them have anything in their past that they wouldn’t like to be made public?
Or how about his associates’ families?
There was an obstruction of justice here.
Last time I checked, obstruction of justice is a felony.
I try to imagine a stoned George Will. I just can’t. I can’t even imagine a mildly tipsy George Will.
Sullivan is a different story. Judging from his blog content, I’d say he’s high 95% of the time.
This would never happen to George Will.
George only tokes up at home in his basement will all the doors locked.

How do we know that George Will isn’t stoned all the time already?
It is interesting to finally see the some of the fruits from the money Sullivan raised with his Fund Drives.
I don’t want to know what he bought with the rest of it. EVER.
It’s irrelevant to Progressives if Andrew got busted and got out of it. If George Will got busted, Progressives would ONLY care about George Will. Not because of the usual, “ha! your team got an out!” but because George Will, if you asked him, would probably tell you that pot was a bad thing.
Because Will has the temerity to espouse a moral position other than 1) Abortion is Awesome, 2) Republicans = Nazis of Hitlerism, he MUST be attacked however possible.
To Sullivan, it makes not one bit of difference if he’s a crook and a fraud who abused the power and connections of the press. If a member of the Palin family – daring to espouse moral positions outside of 1 and 2 above got busted for something (like, oh, say, having a child outside of wedlock), that would be worthy of the most serious condemnation, ugliest attacks and ridicule.
Andrew’s glass house has been shattered.
As a reader of his blog, I’m not at all surprised that he tokes up. Anyone who is surprised by this was probably gobsmacked when Elton John outed himself as a bisexual back in the 70s. And felt even more shocked when they found out he was lying.
William F Buckley got on his boat and went outside the US territorial limit (a mere 3 miles way back when, IIRC) and lit up a joint to experience the sensation so popular with the young folk. I can’t even remember what he wrote about his reaction to it.

If Sarah Palin or any of her family members had been busted for a marijuana charge, we know how Andrew Sullivan would have reacted. And if the charge had been dismissed with this kind of justification? The heavens would have been rent with his outrage.
I am a naturalized citizen who went through the long and painful immigration process. From what I have read, Andrew Sullivan has a green card already, which means that the only meaningful “unspecified immigration benefit” that he is seeking is likely naturalization – his admission into US citizenship.
I wonder if he will truthfully answer question 10. D. 16. on the N-400 form, which asks:
Have you ever been arrested, cited, or detained by any law enforcement officer … for any reason?
Considering the amount of slander and lies that Andrew has leveled at his political opponents and even neutral persons, I somehow doubt it. The title of part D. is Good Moral Character. How many people think that Andrew Sullivan has Good Moral Character?
