Summer Programing Blues

May 28, 2009 - 1:18 pm - by Stephen Green

We must be in the summer TV doldrums. Cruising through the new shows TiVo caught for us over the last few days, the two most promising were “America’s Got Socks” and “Quilt Whisperer.”

You might give “So You Think You Can Dance” a try. My wife and I certainly enjoy it.

We are definitely suffering from a lack of content. DirectTv has apparently decided to fill their unused bandwidth with innumerable shopping channels.

I thought things were bad enough when they put up 20 some jewelry selling channels. But this summer, we have two, yes, TWO, tomato growing infomercials: Tomato Tree and Topsy Turvey Tomatoes.

I’m trying to decide if this is evidence of the end of intelligent western culture, or a demonstration of the success of free market capitalism.
