Whoever has a viable plan to balance the budget gets to stress fiscal responsibility. Until then, and until someone actually does it, how about all politicians shut the hell up and stop moralizing about “responsibility” and start working on budgets that actually get us there. I haven’t seen one yet, no matter how many proposals there are to “cut pork” and “manage entitlements”. Pointing to the problems isn’t a solution.
Luckily(?!), a global financial meltdown may be our only hope. And here it may be, so that living on credit plan that both parties have relied on for the last forty years is about to come crashing down and we just might have to do that combination of spending cuts and tax increases that may or may not alleviate our “fiscal irresponsibility”. But I don’t have my hopes up.
