Is China’s SAIC gearing up to buy Saturn from GM?

The deal would make sense for a foreign automaker looking to buy into a US dealer/distribution stream, without having to take on the responsibility of owning an automaker that actually makes cars. SAIC could ditch the UAW by continuing the fine GM tradition of using its “import fighter” brand to sell rebadged imports. Only instead of selling rebadged Opels from Europe, SAIC would sell their own rebadged Chinese cars.

Would many Americans notice the difference?
