I live under one of the “out to sea” flight paths for the C-17s based at McChord AFB. When I lived in Portland I was near the flight path for the F-15′s. Call me odd, but I LIKE that noise. There is nothing quite as cool as the free air show from one of these warbirds doing a high angle bank over the house. Far more enteratining than most network TV.
I used to live several miles from Mather AFB near Sacramento, back when there were still … well, when it was still an Air Force Base, but they even still had at least a squadron of B-52s there.
Every so often they’d stage a night scramble or something, and if the weather was bad those warhorses would be flying low even over my neighborhood. There were times they woke me from a sound sleep before I had to get up early for one reason or another. Sometimes even I, who never for a moment doubted the need for a nuclear deterrent, woke up wondering whether this time it was just a drill, or the real thing.
Later, when gangs started moving into the neighborhood, I would have much preferred the sound of heavy bombers flying low overhead late at night.
Bring it!!
Yeah, I want me somma that awesome noise!
In the words of Granpa Simpson: Bitch, bitch, bitch.
