The phone price doesn’t bother me as much as the extra $30 a month (3G version) for data service. Cutting that in half would be a bigger deal than cutting the up-front sticker price if they really want to expand market share.
That’s probably not going to happen until AT&T loses its exclusive contract with Apple. Which, depending on which rumor you think is true, is either in June of this year, or in three more years.
