I had to look up the word ‘prolier’ just now, glad I did, means a member of the proletariat, which explains why I had not heard the word ‘prole’ before, I’m successfully weak in Marxist terminology.
Then I read the occasionally indispensable George Will today (“Yankee Fan Go Home“) and this

Steven, just look Hitchens up in the DC Yellow Pages; he often says in public that he’s “in the book,” so presumably you can call him on the phone.

Hmm, I had assumed “prolier” was nonce word for “more proletariat.” I’m not finding it in any online dictionaries, and this post is currently the number one google hit. So congratulations, I guess.
It’s a clever use of word play. I used to use all varieties of the “Holier than thou” in reference to people from college day forward. My favourite is “Assholier than thou”. I used that in reference to the Dean of students. Still use it whenever the mood strikes.
