While CBS has its share of problems, you can’t really blame them for making Katie Couric a vapid, superficial waste of television bandwidth. I mean, did the dude ever WATCH the Today show? The woman made me want to scratch out my eyeballs.
I didn’t understand the move in any way whatsoever. Why the hell did they take her out of her element? And why the hell did they stick to something that wasn’t working anyhow?
If they just called it Today Evening, booked it accordingly, and dealt with the big stories as they came, it could have worked. But as it happened, it was kind of like deciding that Randy Travis was a tenor so he might as well sing for the Metropolitan Opera. Only in that case, it would’ve been a pay cut.
I thought Dan Rather already did that. It would be nice to pull the sheet over the corpse, though.
