UPDATE: I must confess I’m glad Rudy didn’t completely embarrass himself by placing fourth after Huckabee. But it’s clear that his Florida First strategy was a failure in concept and execution. Buh-bye.

Rudy underscores a point Bob Krumm made in his Thompson post mortem: never ever ever skip New Hampshire. By winning New Hampshire McCain knocked Giuliani into fourth place—from first place. It’s always about the top two. By the time Fla. rolled around, Giuliani wasn’t one of the top two, and thus he lost most of the support that had been his for a year.
