Visiting Hillary
January 27th, 2008 - 8:47 pm
Looks like Hillary Clinton is moving to change the rules mid-stream on those heretofore unseated delegates from Florida, where she currently is leading in the polls. Quite a brassy move, to say the least. Many of the leading lights in the Democratic Party are not amused by such shenanigans, however.
One evening back in 1993, I had the privilege to be part of a private White House tour with a few work colleagues. We saw pretty much everything, including Hillary’s offices. See pic below. I’m the guy wearing a red tie. Hillary didn’t seem brassy to me. In fact, she hardly said a word.

It certainly does her justice.

RE: Not REALLY Changes
The Democrats were doing the same thing during their national convention back in 1860. YES….1860!
They actually had FOUR conventions that year. The first, down in Charleston, SC, was a bust when the Alabama delegates left because they couldn’t get their way on the platform plank about continuing slavery. They took most of the other Cotton-Belt state delegations with them, went across ‘town’ and started their own convention.
The regularly scheduled convention collapsed and said it would meet in Baltimore a couple of months later.
In Baltimore, the same scenario happened. But with a twist that smacks of this Hillary bid, one group of Democrat didn’t want the credentials of those delegates who left the Charleston convention accepted.
The chair, who sympathized with Southern State delegates allowed them to be seated. The result was the same…..the Southern delegations left when their idea of the slavery-continuation plank was not adopted.
According to Catton, it was all political machinations by the Southern States who WANTED the Republicans to win in order to give them an excuse to leave the Union.
Ain’t politics grand?

Chuck(le)
[The more things change, the more they remain the same.]
P.S. I’m seeing a LOT of parallels between what Catton reports about the years leading up to the Civil War and what is going on today. This time, it’s a culture war. And the other day, my neighbor had an article published in the local paper expressing his concerns that those Godless Bible-Thumpers might get violent.
He seems to have forgotten what took place in Denver and then C’ Springs late last year.
Psychologists call it ‘projection’.
“change the rules mid-stream on … Florida”
Kinda reminds me of Gore after the 2000 election.
Wanting to change the rules as soon as they stop favoring you isn’t a Clinton thing, it’s a Democrat thing.
I always thought Hillary was two dimensional, just never realized how true that is.
