Winning Hearts and Minds – of the MSM*

Marlin Kluvers tells me that Fairbanks News-Miner reporter Margaret Friedenauer is an embed with the 172nd Stryker Brigade in Iraq. Luckily for us, she isn’t just reporting – she’s also blogging. Here’s a little something from her first patrol:
Think about everything you

Inspiring Stories….
As the Iraqis go out to vote today (see Washington Post for overview regarding high turnout), it is good to see stories that are supportive of our country, our military, and the work that we are doing abroad. First, is
It’s a case of a now free Iraq changing the minds of the MSM one reporter at a time. Unfortunately, at that pace, the MSM will never catch up to reality.
It doesn’t matter, since the embeds have been told by their hotel bound betters and editors that they are being brainwashed and will be ignored.
Worrying about the accuracy of the media is like worrying about the loyalty of a French ally. What’s the point?
The great, career-making, breaking news stories usually don’t have happy endings; they usually revolve around disturbing news, deceit and downfall.”
And as many times as people point it out, and as many times as the MSM denies it – right there, she admits the biggest problem (Which, by the way, shows she’s got more introspection than most, and should be applauded).
The way to get ahead is scandal. Bleeds, it leads. Big Story Now! Not *reporting*. Not telling things how they are, but slanting them. Reporters used to “journal” things, now they’re activists (In my time in the media, I met very few who *genuinely* had the attempt at objectivity).

Must Read for Today
Vodka Pundit found a new embedded reporter blogging from Iraq. She discovers that: “If I am truly unbiased, then I…
Nice story about the “scales” falling from her eyes and all…but the sad fact is, the other side of the story still remains untold! Hopefully she will correct this going forward. Shall we start a pool?
If most of the talking heads covered Normandy, They’d likely be asking Wehrmacht officers questions about anglo-american aggression…
This lady’s got class and cajones going against the norm…
Yesterday I saw a promo for a WWE program about the wrestlers going to Afghanistan to enterain the troops. They mentioned that they were at forward operating bases. The reporter asked about news media “in the field”. Both of the WWE guys laughed rather hysterically and said “Hell, we never saw a reporter…”
Thank God for folks like Margaret Friedenauer and Michael Yon.
Truth be told, the “disturbing news, deceit and downfall” is the lack of honest reporting by the MSM.
REVELATION
I found an old entry by Vodkapundit that warmed my heart. He found an embed from Alaska who was struck by the magnitude of her job: Think about everything you
